A good hotel with excellent staff

The staff were excellent especially the restaurant manager and the guest relations who were very accommodating and attentive to our needs Breakfast and evening meal were very good The sea can be quite rough but enjoyable at the same time with a soft sandy beach and warm water, the pool is not very big and the beach towels not very good Once again the staff are excellent

My travel agent had originally booked me a hotel inland, but I couldn’t visit Sri Lanka’s coastline without spending a night by the beach. I found this hotel on Hotels.com, and I’m so glad I did! The location ( right on a quiet, scenic stretch of beach) was peaceful and beautiful. Most of the time, I had the beach almost entirely to myself. The room was spacious, spotless, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The pool was lovely too, but honestly, the beachside area was just too perfect not to spend all my time there. Although I’m usually not a “massage person,” I have to say their therapist, Sharanga, was exceptional. It was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. I highly recommend booking a full body massage with her! The food was delicious, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder or more welcoming. On my last day, they even invited me to take part in a Christmas cake mixing ceremony, such a thoughtful and joyful experience. It was a beautiful way to end my time in Sri Lanka.

Loved this property. The reception was so friendly and welcoming. The pool is lovely. The food and drinks (aside from one mistake) was good and reasonably priced. We often had the beach to ourselves. A few things, such as the gym and probably do with a bit of an update/clean but it was the end of the season and there were very few people to use it. The TV was good for English speakers, should you want news or movies. The hair dryer and mirror were outside of the shower and toilet area, allowing 2 people to get ready much more quickly. We had room 202, which also had a decent size mini fridge and nice balcony area. Plug sockets were also compatible with British plugs. Excellent news for us, as we had already lost one adapter. Overall, this place exceeded expectations.

Great hotel at the beach

We stayed 2 nights, and was treated very good! We got a big room with a balcony and an ocean view. The beach were beautiful, and they also had a great pool for lazy days. I also got an amazing foot massage at the spa during my stay. The staff and the manager were very helpful and service minded. We got treated very well, and we felt safe here Can definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel, great service

This is a brilliant place to unwind and explore this part of Sri Lanka. Great service from a friendly staff and wonderful food, especially the breakfasts. The beach below hotel is not great but the pool is good, and there are some good beaches nearby. This hotel would suit someone after something quiet and low-key.

An excellent boutique hotel ideal for couples

My wife and I spent 4 days in the excellent R Degrees in Ambalangoda on full board basis recently. We were greeted by Mr Perera (the General Manager) and his front office team on arrival and check in was a breeze. R Degrees is a small boutique hotel (c.10 rooms) and you get a very personalized service. For example, Mr Perera made sure that our lunch and dinner menu was different for each day of our stay. Our room (the beach facing suite with a balcony) was very spacious and came with a large LED TV/satellite channels, a BOSE wireless speaker, separate shower room, jacuzzi bath and a separate WC. The food was good and restaurant/catering team was professional. A special mention goes to the brilliant Mr SUDATH who waited on us during our stay. The hotel grounds (excluding the public beach) were very well kept. A big thank you to Mr Perera and his team for making our stay comfortable and enjoyable!!!

Service at it´s best

R Degrees was our last stop before flying home. It was a great destination for a couple of relaxed last days with just sea, pool and reading a book. The service was far beyond everything we experienced in Sri Lanka. The hotel manager did everything in his power to make our stay great.

Nice hotel, lovely staff

We arrived here after an 8 day tour for a six night stay. We found the room to be spotless, comfortable and spacious. The staff were amazing, particularly the general manager who looked after our every need and request. The hotel has its own private beach, plus a swimming pool with gorgeous views out to the Indian Ocean. A trip to the nearest tourist friendly town Hikkaduwa is only a short 15-20 tuk tuk ride. Unfortunately there is not much to cater for tourists in the town of Ambalangoda itself, but we enjoyed the seclusion the hotel provided. Our flight was not until later that night and the general manager kindly let us stay in our room for the day and use the facilities at no extra charge. We were most impressed with this ‘going the extra mile’ and would highly recommend R Degrees as an excellent boutique hotel choice. What an amazing experience! Thanks again.

Lovely beach front location

We stayed for Christmas and new year, we stayed in room 103 which was stunning Staff all helpful and friendly all needs met by the manager who is on site all the time. Good location only 15min walk into town centre, bus stop right outside the hotel with great links to Colombo and Galle. Very clean and accomadating . Highly recommended

This hotel is quite a contrast with the reviews. Personal exp: We were given a room with a broken shower and hole in the bed spread. On complaining, the manager upgraded us to another room. This one was better but had a weird problem wherein the water from shower would get super hot intermittently which resulted in me getting burnt couple of times while having shower. The manager tried his best but could not resolve the issue and we had to live with the issue Other negatives: - Lots of mosquitoes in the reception area - very expensive spa - mediocre breakfast for a 4.5* hotel Positives: Great location next to the beach Very good restaurant

Everything was simply perfect, from the welcome to the beach location, the very friendly staff and the great food they have! Unfortunately Ambalangoda is not the prettiest of cities but the close distance to Galle is perfect! Totally recommend this hotel!

Viele gute Bewertungen machten mich skeptisch...

aaaaber: Vom ersten Moment an war ich erstaunt über die Architektur des Hotels. Die sehr hohen Decken und die offene Bauweise lassen jedem Geist freien Raum um sich vollends zu entfalten. Dabei spielt natürlich auch das direkt angrenzende Meer eine große Rolle, dass mit seinem anhaltenden Rauschen jeden Besucher in einen meditativen Zustand versetzen kann. Viel wichtiger sind dennoch die großen, sauberen und sehr modern eingerichteten Zimmer (in meinem Fall der super deluxe room). Tägliche Zimmerreinigung und zwei Flaschen Wasser pro Tag machen die Ankunft im Hotel nach einem Ausflug noch viel herzlicher. Auch für Musikfreunde und solche die auf Fernsehen nicht verzichten können ist bestens mit einer Bluetooth box (JBL Horizon im super deluxe und die große Bose station in den suiten) und großem flachbildfernseher + reichlich Kanälen gesorgt. Die Preise des Restaurants sind abhängig vom Gericht zwischen sehr erschwinglich und normal, während die Qualität jederzeit die Oberklasse dieses Hotels widerspiegelt. Das höflich wie zuvorkommende Personal ist stets aufmerksam und spricht teilweise auch ein paar Worte deutsch. Ich kann nur festhalten: Vom Koch, über den Barkeeper, dem Life Guard, dem Reinigungspersonal bis hin zum Manager sind alle rund um die Uhr nur an einem entspannten und zufriedenen Aufenthalt des Gastes interessiert. Besonders die allgegenwärtige Bereitschaft des Managers sich auch um Anliegen außerhalb des Hotels zu kümmern zeugen waren erstaunlich!

Här, kände vi oss direkt som hemma!

Vi blev mycket väl och varmt bemötta på R degrees. Personalen var omhändertagande under hela vår vistelse. Både på hotellet och under utflykter. Lugn strand precis nedanför hotellet. Rofylld trädgård med pool. Mycket god mat. Nära till stadslivet i Ambalangoda. Vi kommer gärna tillbaka! Maria, Andreas och Ava.
