Les Bardeaux Gite Rouge

Stunning rural retreat with enclosed garden and natural swimming pool.

2 bedroomed gite set in 7 and a half acres of private meadow and woodland.

This luxurious holiday gite is in a stunning area of the Dordogne countryside with many beautiful local walks on our doorstep. It has an enclosed garden and exclusive access to a natural swimming pool.

Les Bardeaux Gite Rouge is at the end of a quiet little hamlet, within the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne, but still close enough to enjoy local villages, towns and attractions, with our closest village just 3 and a half kms away, which offers a patisserie/boulangerie, restaurant, post office, info site, pub, and creperie. Our nearest supermarket is just 15 minutes drive away. We are just 50 mins drive from Limoges airport. Three restaurants are withing 10 minutes drive from us.

Set in gorgeous grounds with an enclosed garden, ideal for families and dogs, Les Bardeaux offers peace and tranquility and a chance to recharge your batteries. The ethos is all about enjoying nature: with our own woodlands, natural swimming pool and hammock seats for you to enjoy at various spots around the grounds.

Les Bardeaux Gite Rouge is a very family-friendly place to stay. The gite itself has a child safety-gate at the top of the stairs, a baby bath, changing mat, cot, high chair and play-pen.

There is an outside play area, with a swing/rope apparatus; and also games provided: boules (petanque), tennis, badminton, football, basketball and table-tennis.

There is a natural swimming pool, with a shallow paddling area for young children. It is a really beautiful to look at and to swim in. Because it is a natural pool, the liner can be slippery, so guests may wish to bring rubber beach shoes. Lots of wildlife is attracted to the pool, including a resident kingfisher (there are no fish in the pool), dragonflies, frogs and newts.

There are a variety of bikes for guests to use for free, although you will need to bring your own cycle helmets. The woods and the grounds here are a natural children's playground! We have two horses, Hugo and Postit, who are very partial to the odd carrot - but please ask permission before you feed them. Our hens are always extremely popular with children.

We have our own very friendly and loveable lurchers, Roo and Ted. They love people and other dogs. We understand how difficult it can be to find truly dog-friendly accommodation and whole-heartedly welcome your dog/s to Les Bardeaux Gite Rouge.

We are spoilt for choice for walks right on our doorstep. If you need a dog-sitter or dog-walker then we are always very willing to help, for a small additional charge. We can also provide a dog crate and/or doggy blankets.

We love nature and are trying to be as eco-friendly as we can. We recycle as much as possible and encourage guests to do the same. We do not need to use chemicals in the natural swimming pool, so it is so much kinder on your skin and feels so much nicer to bathe in.

The area around Les Bardeaux is breath-taking. There are countless walks right on our doorstep, through woods and hamlets, around lakes and meadows. It is paradise for ramblers, nature lovers, dog-walkers and cyclists.

The nearest village, Abjat-sur-Bandiat, is just 3 and a half kms away. It is possible to walk there along the walking tracks and takes about 45 minutes. If you're not feeling that energetic, it is just a few minutes in the car, or a short cycle ride away. There is a creperie, pub, patisserie and post office.

La Ferme du Lac is a lovely 17th century restored farmhouse bar/restaurant nestles at the bottom of a wooded valley with its own lake. It’s a lovely place for relaxing over a drink in the sunshine. It is possible to walk there along the footpaths, taking about 45 mins. It is just a few minutes’ drive away, or you can cycle there.

Les Bardeaux is in the Perigord Vert (Green Perigord) region of the Dordogne where there are countless outdoor activities, towns/villages, historical buildings/chateaux and caves, and swimming lakes to visit.

Note: Gite Rouge is not suitable for those with mobility issues/wheel chair users.

Peaceful and comfortable

This well equipped, comfortable house is in a peaceful oasis of nature with a natural pond, meadow and garden. There are so many beautiful villages and towns to visit nearby and a variety of walks in the forest and quiet country roads. The hosts are very friendly and helpful but also give you space to relax and enjoy your holiday. I would highly recommend Les Bardeaux gîtes.

Schöner Entspannungsurlaub

Das Haus ist wie auf den Bildern, wunderschön! Es ist aber auch sehr außerhalb gelegen, ohne Auto wird es schwierig. Wer einen ruhigen Urlaub in Mitten der Natur möchte, ist da perfekt aufgehoben. Für uns war es dann leider doch zu weit abgelegen. Der nächste Supermarkt ist mit dem Auto 15-20 Min entfernt. Aber da hätten wir uns im Vorfeld besser informieren können :) Auf den Bildern sah es für uns so aus, dass es ein großer eingezäunter Garten ist, mit Schwimmteich. Aus diesem Grund hatten wir uns für das Haus entschieden, da ein eingezäunter Garten mit Hund sehr praktisch ist. Leider stellte sich bei der Ankunft heraus, das der Garten am Haus nicht eingezäunt ist, sondern nur das Gelände vom Schwimmteich, der aber separat gelegen ist. In nur 3-4 Gehminuten befinden sich auch 2 Teiche im Wald, in dem der Hund schwimmen kann. Die Vermieter wohnen direkt im Haus nebenan, wirklich ganz tolle und zuvorkommende Vermieter! Wir wurden ganz lieb in Empfang genommen und Sophie hat uns sogar einen kleinen Willkommenskorb mit Leckerein bereitgestellt. Die Vermieter sind auch sehr hundefreundlich und haben auch einen eigenen Hund. Vielleicht wichtig zu wissen, der Hund darf nicht hoch in die erste Etage, wo sich die Schlafzimmer befinden. Da unser Hund gewohnt ist, bei uns mit im Schlafzimmer zu schlafen, war diese Vorgabe eher ein Problem. Ansonsten können wir das Haus und die Gastgeber wärmstens empfehlen! Es war trotz des schlechtem Wetters ein wunderbarer Urlaub :)

Wonderful

We had a really pleasant stay at the gîte des Bardeaux. We enjoyed the calm and nature surrounding us. The gîte is well equipped and the welcome basket is just perfect. Sophie and Craig are very considerate hosts. We greatly recommand!

Home from home

I had a wonderful stay at Sophie & Craig’s gîte. The thing that made it was the warm welcome from Sophie & Craig. It was January and so, cold, but Sophie would bring me a wheelbarrow full of logs for the wood-burning stove every morning! My dog, Jack, played happily in the garden and it was perfect for him, with lots of walks. All in all, a great stay!

Idyllic retreat tucked away in the French countryside

Sophie and Craig were the perfect hosts - nothing ever too much trouble. The gite is even better than the photos show!! Clean, tidy, and well-provisioned with a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Séjour relaxant

Un endroit parfait pour de belles ballades, la maison est située à proximité de nombreux villages agréables à visiter. Les hôtes sont serviables et réactifs, bien que nous n’ayons pas eu le plaisir d’échanger beaucoup avec eux, les échanges avec Sophie ayant eu lieu exclusivement pas message lors de notre séjour, ce qui nous a un peu surpris. La maison est très propre, le matériel mis à disposition n’est pas de première jeunesse mais reste fonctionnel. Nous avons passé un très bon moment et remercions chaleureusement les hôtes !

Chaleureux et reposant

Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour en famille chez Sophie et Craig. Le gîte est très cosy, très chaleureux et décoré avec goût. Notre fille a adoré la proximité des animaux et toute la famille a profité des balades en forêt, au gré des étangs dont cette région regorge. Très belle surprise à notre arrivée avec un panier gourmand de bienvenue des plus accueillants ! À refaire en été pour profiter de la quiétude des lieux et d'une nature encore préservée.

Fantastic stay at Site Rouge

We stayed for six days at Gite Rouge and had an absolute fantastic time. The Gite and surrounding facilities were not only excellent for my wife and myself but also for our puppy Murphy. Sophie and Craig were the perfect hosts, helping out with any advice on the local area and we shared a lovely drink and bite to eat with them at a local restaurant. If you are unsure where to stay in the Dordogne this is definitely recommended as a five star accommodation.

Great relaxing county getaway

We had a lovely two weeks. Really Great environment for chilling out. Lots for children on site, our boys particularly enjoyed helping Sophie with her horses, the swimming pool, swings and toys provided. Claude the cat was a frequent visitor to our gite as well which the boys also loved. Sophie and Craig we're very welcoming and take good with our kids. Plenty to do round and about and the local swimming lakes were great with good facilities. We may well be coming back.

Séjour en Périgord vert

Charmante maison en pierre typique de la Dordogne située dans un hameau aux portes du parc naturel du Périgord. Bien équipée, au calme et avec quelques animaux dans un décor de verdure et de fleurs. Accueil très sympathique (en anglais 😄) par Sophie. Nous avons passé une semaine très reposante. Très satisfait de notre séjour.

Even van de wereld

Heerlijk om even overal ver vandaan te zijn; even niets. Mooi gerestaureerd huis met net iets te veel snuisterijen. Lekker krakende vloerdelen, houten luiken om de slaapkamer te verduisteren, maar ook comfortabel dubbel glas. De kat komt regelmatig een kopje geven. En natuurlijk de prachtige zwemvijver. De omgeving is groen, mooi maar ook een beetje saai. Op 5 km is een mooi zwemmeer met zandstrand, neem een bootje mee! Op 30 minuten is een kartbaan van 1100 meter. Meer hebben wij niet gedaan, ja luieren nog heel veel.

Beter kun je het niet krijgen.

Prima gastvrouw en gast heer. Rust in een prachtige omgeving met veel mogelijkheden om te wandelen, fietsen, hardlopen en zelfs zwemmen in je eigen natuur zwembad. Het huis zelf van alle gemakken voorzien en op een meer dan perfecte locatie.

Kom tot rust in les bardeaux.

Prachtige en zeer complete gerestaureerde woning, waar het heerlijk toeven is . Enorme ruimte voor de honden. De eigenaren maken het de gasten in alles naar de zin, om een geweldige vakantie te ervaren. Een aanrader, voor iedereen die van rust en ruimte houdt!

Gîte superbe, en plein Perigord vert, avec une magnifique pisicine naturelle

Gîte très agréable et fonctionnel : le séjour est en bas et les deux chambres à l'étage. Il est situé à l'extrémité d'un hameau, en face de la forêt et de l'enclos de chevaux et permet de profiter du calme et de la nature. Hôtes anglophones très agréables, très courtois, discrets et disponibles dans la maison attenante. Grand panier de bienvenue avec croissants, pain, thé, café, bouteille de vin ! Un vrai plaisir. Terrasse avec toutes les commodités. Grand jardin qui permet des parties de foot ou de badmigton. La piscine naturelle est superbe et permet de se baigner au milieu des plantes aquatiques. La région est très belle, très authentique, avec ses grandes forêts, ses étangs, d' innombrables chemins de randonnée permettent de la sillonner et sont facilement accessibles depuis le gîte. Il est facile de pouvoir sillonner la région et de visiter Brantôme, Bourdeilles, Hautefort, ou de piquer une tête au Saut du Chalard ou au lac de Saint-Saud. Un lieu propice au repos dans un cadre vert et naturel.

Calme et sérénité en pleine nature

Superbe gîte dans un petit hameau en pleine campagne, entouré de vert, de forêt. Idéal pour se ressourcer, trouver du calme et profiter de la nature. Ancienne maison en pierre typique de la région superbement rénovée. Le gîte est très spacieux, très bien équipé, excellente literie. Parfaitement propre et décoré avec goût. Cuisine avec grand réfrigérateur et congélateur, plaques induction, four. 2 chambres à l'étage et sdb neuve. Les propriétaires, charmant couple anglais, sont à côté et aux petits soins avec vous, mais aussi très discrets si vous le préférez! Nous avons adoré le panier rempli de bonnes choses en arrivant! Thank you Craig and Sophie for the yummy barbecue! Et si jamais vous vous retrouvez pendant vos vacances avec un dos coincé, n'hésitez pas à demander l'aide de vos hôtes: Thank you so much Craig! Grand terrasse avec barbecue, jardin privatif avec chaises longues et deuxième salon de jardin pour des apéros sympas. Le jardin donne en continue sur un très vaste terrain avec des hamacs à votre disposition et une piscine naturelle de rêve (sécurisée)!!! On a adoré! Nous n'avons malheureusement pas eu l'occasion de tester le "hot tub", ce sera pour la prochaine fois! Pour les enfants plein de place pour courir, portique, des animaux à contempler et caresser (chevaux, chiens, poules, chaton), ils étaient ravis du séjour. C'était notre première venue en Périgord-Limousin, à conseiller aux amoureux de la nature. Il nous faudra revenir à l'automne pour cueillir des châtaignes et des cèpes! Des lacs et des étangs pour ceux qui veulent se baigner en plus de la piscine naturelle du gîte. Plein de villages très sympas et des visites de sites (grotte du Villars, Châteaux,...) à environ 30 min, encore beaucoup plus de patrimoine à environ 1 h de route, superbes ballades en vélo et randos à faire. Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour en famille ( 2 enfants de 9 et 12 ans) dans ce gîte magnifique que nous ne pouvons que recommander, aucun bémol! Nous rentrons bien reposés et espérons revenir bientôt...

Location charmante au calme

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans cet endroit au calme, plongé dans la nature. Nous avons apprécié la piscine naturelle, la terrasse et l’emplacement. Nous aurions aimé testé le bain nordique. Sophie et Craig nous ont offert un petit panier d’accueil très appréciable. La literie est confortable et le gite bien équipé. L’environnement est superbe, avec quelques animaux qui ont bien amusé les enfants (poules, chiens, chat et chevaux)

Heerlijk ontspannen in landelijke omgeving

Sophie en Craig zijn geweldige gastgevers. Bij aankomst werden we hartelijk ontvangen met een welkomstpakket. Craig had de hottub vast opgewarmd. Het huis heeft alles voor een verblijf met 4 personen (+hond). Goede bedden. We hebben vooral genoten van de heerlijke zwemvijver. De directe omgeving leent zich uitstekend voor wandelen en fietsen. In de buurt zijn veel mooie en interessante dorpen en steden. Oradour is een must see. Als golfers kwamen we goed aan onze trekken met vier 18 holes golf courses binnen een uur rijden. Het enige nadeel was dat we niet langer konden blijven. Thanks Sophie and Craig.
