Set in the welcoming village of Gilwern, this stone-built cottage makes a wonderful base for couples and families looking to uncover the rich heritage of South Wales. The village offers friendly pubs, handy local shops and a picturesque stretch of canal that's perfect for waterside walks or bike rides. Just 4.5 miles away, the charming market town of Crickhowell is a delight to explore, with its independent boutiques, tempting cafes and excellent local restaurants. Abergavenny (4 miles) is famous for its lively food scene, popular farmers’ markets and impressive Abergavenny Castle. History lovers can discover the region’s industrial past at Blaenavon Ironworks (7 miles) or venture underground at the fascinating Big Pit National Coal Museum (7 miles). Alternatively, the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre (22 miles) is a great starting point for walks and scenic drives in the national park. Adventure seekers are well catered for, with opportunities for horse riding, mountain biking, climbing and kayaking nearby.
This delightful single-storey retreat has been thoughtfully styled throughout. Inside, the hallway leads through to a bright open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Sink into the generous corner sofa after a day of discovery, light the wood burner (logs provided) and settle in for a film on the Smart TV. On sunny days, French doors frame countryside views and bring the outside closer. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing everything from hearty breakfasts to evening meals, while the wooden dining table seats four for shared suppers and holiday planning. Two bedrooms sit just off the hallway: one king-size room with its own en-suite shower room, and a twin room suited to children or friends. A family bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower completes the layout.
Outside, an enclosed patio looks out across the orchard and is furnished with seating and a BBQ/fire pit for laid-back evenings under the open sky. Guests can also take advantage of private river fishing within the grounds, with permits available from the owners for the duration of your stay (a valid river fishing licence is required). Ample private parking ensures easy arrivals and departures.
