West Side Romantic Vacations

We were some of the first guests to stay at this hotel. This facility is absolutely beautiful and will definitely become a great place for people to stay and enjoy. The location is close to the airport and a lot of restaurants and stores. The property has parking that's not to far from the building. The room was well decorated and the sheet and pillows were definitely the Hilton level. The staff was super friendly and helpful from beginning to end with them helping us and suggesting places to go visit and eat at. Kai from the front lobby was great and helpful multiple times. One issue is that their in house bar closes too early at 1030pm, and they dont offer any alcohol for sale in their lobby. That was an inconvenience since then we had to leave the property to find alcohol to enjoy in our room. And there was a ton of construction with is to be expected with the recent opening and the hurricane, but a lot of the area where the rooms were at seemed messy and there was too many construction workers around the hotel near the rooms. Maybe completing a portion at a time would have been nicer so not see the behind the scenes. And a piece of metal fell from the ceiling and almost hit us while we were getting ready.

Our experience at the Westin Princeville during the hurricane was incredibly disappointing, and what happened afterward made it way worse. Because of the hurricane and resulting conditions on Kauai, we were effectively stranded at the hotel for an additional two days. We had no choice but to extend our stay because travel and road conditions made it impossible for us to leave as planned. I understand that Marriott did not cause the hurricane and I never expected the hotel to somehow be responsible for a natural disaster. What I did expect was a reasonable amount of customer service and empathy toward guests who were literally stuck there through circumstances completely outside their control. Instead, the hotel charged us its disaster rate for the additional nights (which was still 70% of the full rate) and, incredibly, also charged us self-parking fees for those extra days—even though our car was effectively immobilized by the debris and conditions and we could not actually use it or leave the property. I specifically asked whether the parking charges could be waived given the circumstances. The response was that because Marriott wasn't responsible for the hurricane, they weren't willing to waive the parking fees. That reasoning completely misses the point. I'm not asking Marriott to pay for a hurricane. I'm asking a luxury resort to show a little discretion and goodwill toward guests who were forced to remain on the property for two additional days. Too much to ask.
