This was a charming stay despite some confusion on check-in where the staff member was not as helpful as they could be. This was later resolved.

We were booked for three nights - arrived early for check in and were given an upgrade to our room which was lovely as we could settle in 3 hours earlier than expected. Room was spacious, clean and just what we needed for three nights. We were in walking distance to everything in the CBD and outer suburbs. There are some great dining experiences in Lt Collins Street and Hardware Lane very close to Treasury on Collins.

Nice clean rooms and comfortable beds. This hotel is rated 5 stars presumably because of the amenities. But a bit too modern for my taste. Light switches were like playing musical chairs. Didn't feel that the wood floors were very clean as well as the black bathroom floors...I wiped up some water off the floor and the paper towel was very dirty. One of the beds was against the bathroom wall that slides....you had the slide the semi-translucent door open from the bathroom in order to reach the thermostat! Yes, you can slide the door open and the see the person brushing their teeth while you're in bed! There's another sliding door for the toilet and shower....only one person gets to use the door....it either closes in front of the toilet or in front of the shower. With all these sliding doors surrounding the bathroom....you hear everything between the bathroom & beds. We paid for $70 per day valet parking. Think they must have have the engine running the whole time because our mileage rating went from 15 to 5 and we never drove the car anywhere after valet took it. Front desk is very dark. Lobby area scented....not a great smell Have fun arriving in your car and trying to fit your car in a space in front of the hotel. Generally not enough lighting in center of room. I do NOT consider this a 5 star hotel. This is more modern rustic...3 star.

The location was excellent. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom walls and entry door handles were visibly dirty and needed thorough cleaning to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The hand basin and bathtub plugs were missing. The cold tap at the hand basin was very hard to turn on and off, and no matter how tightly it was turned off, the water kept dripping. Both bedside lights were not working. The TV controller didn't work, and the reception staff replaced it. When I reported the above-mentioned issues, I was told the maintenance staff were aware of the leaking tap and broken bedside lights and would repair them after the weekend, during my stay. However, these simple repairs never happened during my stay. The hotel room I stayed in was not fit for the purpose, and I feel I'm entitled to some refund.
