Phu Quoc Island Beach Vacations

I loved this property. As a solo female traveler, I felt very comfortable and safe. The Ocean Front Villa was peaceful and embodied light and relaxation. The spa was excellent and fulfilling. I even spotted monkeys while looking out at the water during breakfast. I highly recommend this place!

Quite a good bungalow, large, spacious. Of the minuses I will note the already quite outdated equipment and furniture. The jacuzzi is too old and does not heat the water, so there is no need to use it. The housing needs repairs, as there are many cracks where insects crawl. Overall, a good bungalow, the resort has a large stunning pool with a view of the sea.

The Shell Resort & Spa Phu Quoc did not live up to its 5-star rating during my stay. Even with a premium ocean-view room booked months ahead and also arranged an airport pickup, so the resort knew exactly when we would arrive and should have had the room prepared. The room was not properly cleaned or maintained—hair everywhere, stained outdoor furniture, a cracked tub, and outdated interiors. It took far too long to reach a manager, and when I finally did. The manager on duty mentioned that all ocean-view rooms had similar wear and tear. He offered me a villa room—which was actually cheaper than what I had originally paid—and two spa vouchers. At that point I accepted the offer because I didn’t want to deal with more back-and-forth, but it still didn’t make up for the higher price I paid (over $100 USD per night for a 4-night stay). If the resort is aging, it should adjust its star rating or renovate to match the standards of a true 5-star property. I recommend renovations, including fresh paint, power washing, and updated interiors. To be honest, if the rooms and facilities are this run down, the resort should reconsider its 5-star rating. Very much style over substance. All pools were freezing cold, not enough sunbeds, beach could be better maintained and utilized like the Sonasea Beach bar which I would prefer. The bar staff and pool bar staff were very friendly and attentive but the reception were surly and almost rude on check in and never friendly when asking them anything, was like a chore. Also at breakfast they cleared my plates 5 times when it was evident it hadn’t been left and I’d just gone to get food, I left my cap and other items but they still cleared and threw away food that was not perfectly fine and tea I’d just made, so was annoying. They upgraded me to a room with a huge bed but for 1 person it was impractical and not required, if their level of English was better it may not be an issue but it was lacking. Overall disappointed by the place

The room was always clean, thanks to the housekeeping staff's work. As for the rest of the staff, they should be trained in customer service. Nobody says good morning or good night, or even smiles at anyone. This made me feel like they work under a lot of pressure.
