We arrived late due to a late ferry crossing. I had emailed the hotel on the morning of arrival to explain we’d be late but didn’t receive a reply. On arrival we were lucky to find a parking space in the hotel car park (payable) but it was rammed, so is clearly well used. Parking is at the back of the hotel on a no through street that has dense on-street parking. We struggled to get in/out of the parking area in our large SUV given parking in the immediacy. The area felt intimidating at night. We saw some dodgy characters walking in the area. Upon arrival around 11pm, there was no ‘welcome’, just a key handover and a demand for my passport. I asked about breakfast to be told the times and that if we wanted a swim then we’d need to come get a key. Our room was on a high floor. There was a lift which was adequate and then there was a bit of a trek to the room which was at the far end of corridors, up and down a few stairs. No good for those with accessibility issues. The room was spotless. Really nice. No view other than rooftops but it had everything we needed and we slept well. Nice hot powerful shower. Upon checking out, the receptionist seemed lovely. Very different to the greeting we’d had the night before which was emotionless. We’d probably not stay here again given the uncertainty over parking and trek to the room given both of us have osteoarthritis of the knees, lack of freedom to use the pool when we’d like to. Nice and clean rooms though
