"The villa more than lived up to the photos and descriptions. Stunning hilltop location that offered privacy, 360–degree views, and easy access to Matera and a couple of small charming towns, as well as day trips to the higher-profile tourist towns like Polignano, Alberobello, etc…. The accommodations were pristine, spacious and well laid out. The groundskeeper (Marcello) is there every morning at 7:00 to clean the pool and any other maintenance needs. "Trattandosi di un viaggio di lavoro non ho utilizzato le offerte come SPA e piscina. Ma, l'hotel è molto confortevole, possiede un vasto parcheggio gratuito, è ubicato in periferia (cosa che in una città piccola come Matera è realmente ininfluente) quindi senza le problematiche della ZTL e del traffico mattutino urbano. La colazione è ottima e variegata (potrebbe migliorare se le bevande calde fossero preparate a richiesta e non con la "macchinetta", che non fa un caffè o un cappuccino di qualità adeguata al gusto di un cliente italiano). Stanza confortevole, ampia, con tutte le dotazioni necessarie (apprezzato l'angolo di lavoro con scrivania degna di questo nome, poltroncina ergonomica e punto luce). Menzione di lode per la qualità di materasso, cuscini e biancheria del letto. Un filino rumoroso il climatizzatore."

The only minor drawback is that you need a taxi or will have to drive to the old town; the distance is too far to be walkable. Front desk staff can readily call a taxi, however -- and to return to the hotel, you just walk to the train station to find a cab."

"A Fantastic Stay – Highly Recommended! We had a wonderful experience at the Nicolaus Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we felt safe and well taken care of. The free shuttle from the airport was a huge plus and made our arrival stress-free. The room was spacious enough for our family, which was a pleasant surprise, and the bed was incredibly comfortable – we all slept so well. Even the little things were thoughtfully done – we absolutely loved the soap! Now, the breakfast… hands down the best we’ve ever had at a hotel. There were so many choices, from fresh fruits and pastries to hot dishes and local specialties – something for everyone, and everything was delicious. We also appreciated that there were plenty of good food options just a short walk up the road, which made dining out super convenient. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return. Highly recommend!"
