This is such a unique historic property. You literally step inside an 1850s Victorian mansion, fully furnished with pieces from that time period, but with modern amenities that make your stay comfortable. Breakfast outside was lovely. Georgetown is a small and charming town.
We had an amazing stay, the building is beautiful and historic. The woman who attended us was amazingly helpful and cooked a great breakfast. Top 10 places I've stayed all time highly recommend if visiting the area
What an amazing, historical place! It is truly magical, serene, and set back in a charming small town in gold country! Hats off to the new owner/inn keeper who welcomed us with a warm smile. Her knowledge of the property, as well as her journey to recently purchasing the property was a captivating story. The homemade breakfast in the morning was a perfect start to our off roading weekend. We WILL be back!
Our stay at the American River Inn was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and right at home. The historic charm of this beautiful Victorian inn, combined with the peaceful mountain setting, made for a truly relaxing getaway. The rooms were comfortable and full of character, the grounds were beautifully maintained. We especially appreciated the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the innkeeper. If you’re looking for a unique, relaxing, and memorable bed-and-breakfast experience, the American River Inn is a true gem. We can’t wait to return!
This was my second visit to the American River Inn, which is located in Georgetown (an old mining town in Northern California). The new owner/operator Dawn - is great. There was wine set out for guests & the breakfast in the morning on the veranda is great. My one night there coincided with the towns 170th birthday. The building provides a great sense of history. The rooms are nice & clean. For some, you share a bathroom. That works out fine. The road from Placerville on the east & Auburn on the west is scenic, yet also a bit windy. After two good visits, I look forward to a third in the near future. Tom
Lovely historic inn. Very clean and excellent breakfast. Definitely would recommend.

Breakfast was really delicious and the girl who cooked it for us was very sweet!! The room did have cobwebs and they didn’t provide any shampoo, conditioner, or soap, which would’ve been nice to know. Overall good stay.

Absolutely amazing Bed and Breakfast. Take a step back in time to this enchanting place
We didn’t read the fine print about the 6 pm check in time. We arrived after midnight. The proprietor was very kind and accommodating despite us having woken her up out of her sleep to check us in.
We were upgraded to a suite and allowed late checkout so we could watch the football game.
The hosts were lovely. The decor was charming. We loved the American River Inn!
If you want to experience a Gold Rush Hotel, the American Inn is it! Authentic right down to the floorboards. The owner is super friendly and breakfast was world-class. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Every staff member was extremely welcoming and sweet. We loved our Library room, the decor theoughout the whole buidling was beautiful, and every second there was amazing!
This is a jewel we found for a birthday trip for my wife. It was like stepping into a piece of history. The decor was amazing. There was a sitting room downstairs where the hosts provided a wine and cheese reception. Breakfast at the big table in the morning was amazing. The room was comfortable and perfect for us. The staff was extremely friendly.
We were bummed that the Hot Tube wasn't working. But other then that, all expectations were met. The Inn was well decorated. We enjoyed some time in the yard. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Overall ok, not great
Staff was friendly for sure, and breakfast was good, freshly made. The house had great charm, I appreciate the antiquity of it, the architecture. However, there are things that could be modernized, like the locks on the rooms and bathrooms. 2 of the 3 rooms I booked had increasingly uncomfortable and squeaky beds, no Kleenex in the rooms, the main bathroom we used had nothing to dry our hands after washing them. While the bedrooms were very hot, the hallways and main part of the B&B was freezing.
Emailed through their website and through hotels.com, but never got a response. Ended up changing my plans to arrive within the three hour check in. Nothing noted about how to get into the building, ended up having to look up the number and call. This was during check in hours. Staff was helpful, hotel was as expected for an older Victorian. Hot tub was very nice, but make sure you bring your key, or you will be locked out hoping a guest will let you back in.
Everything was good or better Except no convenient area for pet relief. There is mo grass. Pet areas are dirt which is not good for them or carpets.
Overall great rooms: clean, comfortable and decently priced
