Friendly family run hotel, great food!

3rd or 4th stay at the Mews, always a friendly atmosphere! Great food, comfortable room, and good location, will stay again on my next visit to West Yorks.

The Mews

Although I enjoyed my stay, I was disappointed that the breakfast was not full English. What I had was ok. Overall I had a pleasant stay. Will stay again, now I know what to expect.

We booked a superior room. It was fine but I think we expected it to be a little bigger and to have bath and not just a shower room. However the room was spotless and the bed was comfy. Our evening meal was really excellent and good value.

I had a wonderful stay, hotel is lovely and welcoming. At check in I was upgraded to a larger room which was very clean and spacious. Grateful for the upgrade! The evening meal and breakfast was delicious.

Great hotel

What an amazing, quirky hotel. Stayed for two nights to go to a nearby wedding. Had dinner in the bar the first night and the food was incredible. Great wine list too. Bedroom was really spacious and it was a powerful shower. Breakfast options are limited but great value as it’s included in the price. Would definitely stay again.

It was a very relaxing stay and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The breakfast could have had more of a traditional english breakfast option. However everything else was spot on. Thank you!

Arrived after the check in time and shown to a tiny room. Thin quilt, one pillow very dated. Wi-Fi rubbish and tv couldn't be watched as image pixilated. Breakfast was very poor, one cup of coffee, continental offerings were, orange juice, cereals, 6 yogs and some jam. Cooked offerings were, scrambled egg on toast, sausage or bacon sandwich, cheese or beans on toast. Hadn't even fished the cornflakes before bacon sarnie was delivered only to get cold. Everything was rushed. I even went to pay the bill and return my key at 9:45 only to find everything shut up. I thought breakfast was supposed to finish at 10:30. Left my key with another guest as i had to be at a celebration, she was waiting to speak to speak to someone about her stay. As a place to stay, save your money!

The Mews was clean and tidy inside and out. Unfortunately Ossett is yet another run down town. Sad but it seems to be the way our country is going, all councils should do better.

I had food poisoning.

The reason we chose this hotel was a reputation for excellent restaurant meals. However, on the very first night of our stay I was served rotten sea bass in the restaurant and I felt unwell for the rest of our stay. Obviously, I did not eat at the restaurant after that. We were also not warned at the check-in that breakfast ends at 9am and I missed breakfast after a sleepless night being upset of my food poisoning and that the Chef had thought it was proper to serve customers like me rotten fish and get away with it. Our twin room windows faced the flat roof which was easily accessible by an outside staircase, and we felt it was unsafe to have the windows open during the night. With windows closed it was stuffy and hot. The sleeping area was small and cramped for 2 people. Overall, unpleasant experience. The only positive was helpfulness of the housekeeping lady who allowed to dry our wet shoes in their storage cupboard. I am very grateful to her.

Our rooms/ensuite were both lovely - quiet, crisply finished and one with french doors to a small garden. The dining room is in the pub and the decor is eclectic. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

The positives: The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and perfectly happy to help with luggage, which was very useful as the stairs are very steep. The evening meal we had was excellent and the menu has an interesting selection of different choices. The room had been recently decorated and was very clean. The bed was comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and very clean. The location is extremely convenient for walking into town. The less good: The bedside lightstands were funky but bare bulbs. We prefer shaded lights. Our room was over the bar area. Friday night the noise was extreme, disruptive and continued until well after 12:30. We used the room during the day on Saturday, our second day of stay, but chose not to risk a second night's poor sleep so left early. We would consider using the hotel again. On a future occasion we would ask what other rooms are available at ground level and as far as possible from the bar.
