About this property

Historic Beachfront Haven – Restful, Charming, Unbeatable Views (Flat 5)

This beautifully restored historic homestead (B‑rating) has been in our family since it was moved to its current site in 1885. It was once run as an accommodation house by my great‑grandmother, Jane Morris, and later by my grandmother, Kathleen Morris. Flat 5 carries that heritage with pride, while offering the comfort and style of a full renovation completed in 2016.

Step inside and feel as though you’ve travelled back in time. The apartment is decorated in a traditional, elegant style that creates an immediate sense of charm and calm. It has real WOW factor — cool and breezy in summer, cosy and welcoming in winter.

Flat 5 is fully equipped for a relaxed, independent stay, including a modern, fully functioning kitchen, washing machine and dryer, and two bathrooms for added convenience.

Set right on the Opua beachfront, you’ll wake to the sound of gulls and sweeping views across the Bay. A wrap‑around deck provides the perfect vantage point for watching boats drift in and out, the ferry crossing, the ever‑changing colours of the water and the gentle rhythm of coastal life.

Everything is close by:
• 100 metres to the car ferry and general store
• Another 100 metres to the marina and café
• Only 5 km by road to Paihia or Russell

The coastal walkway between Opua and Paihia is a stunning adventure, and several other beautiful tracks are just minutes away. This is also the perfect starting point for the Twin Coast Cycle Trail.

Flat 5 is simply an exceptional base for a relaxing, rejuvenating holiday and an ideal launchpad for exploring the Bay of Islands and the Far North.

Please note: A separate downstairs apartment sleeping up to 4 guests is also available.

Beautiful property and really well equipped. Such a serene location. The views in the evening are wonderful as was listening to the tuis in the trees. An easy walk along coastal paths to Paihia. What a spectacular spot. The only downside was the cold mornings which the cottage is well prepared for in terms of blankets and heating.

Classic luxury in Opua

This property is amazing, classic old building in a beautiful location. We keep coming back as it is such a relaxing place to unwind in the bay of islands. Very well equipped kitchen/laundry, and comfortable rooms, modern bathrooms. Beach right in front, walking trails to the north and south, and a convenient store and a takeaway just a hundred metres up the road.
