I rarely give bad reviews but I had to make one because I don’t want anybody to experience what we’ve experienced and spend your hard-earned money. I should’ve listened to the bad reviews. I was giving the place the benefit of the doubt because it was nearby the beach which I was looking forward to and it was affordable. We were hoping we finally found a place to go regularly to but it was the opposite. I honestly thought we were just paying certain amount but we reserved the place for one night and paid more. Be aware of the surprise fees like cleaning and others miscellaneous fees.
I was thinking we’ll rest for the night after a long drive and the morning was going to be a half-day getaway from the mundane work-home with my baby and husband. Go to the beach, and breathe the fresh air in the morning. Then the rest of the day was for my interview and drive home feeling refreshed and rested. However, reserving the place ended up as a nightmare. Even after our travel to Norfolk, I'm still dealing with them.
The carpet looked unclean that we won't let the baby go around it, there was peeling paint on the wall, a plastered hole on the wall, and the AC’s insulation was improper, just towels around it, the railing was wobbly. It was not the same in the pictures. The even worse part was the smell of marijuana (we have lung issues and we've had bad experiences with people who use marijuana), we felt unsafe, especially since we arrived in the middle of the night. So we had to leave and stay in a safer and cleaner place because it was getting close to 1 am. So we stayed in another known hotel, they were surprisingly more affordable but we were hoping not to spend that money.
I tried to be amenable but I was accused of lying and even charging me extra today. I don't want to deal with these people anymore. We still ended up getting charged without staying in this place. They can keep the money that was saved for my baby’s first birthday. I hope you use it to buy a new carpet which is about 7 minutes away from your place.
Rustic is okay if it’s clean but this place is not. We live in a 100+-year-old home but it was kept clean. I would request updated images with date moving forward but this is the first and last time I’ll be using Vrbo. Vrbo support is helpful though. However we have better experience with the other platform’s hosts. I'll stick with that and hotels from now on.
