This was a repeat booking at short notice on a Sunday. I was left waiting at checkin for a period of time while the one member of staff attended to another customer faffing about bedding (or something).
My room was, clean, well appointed - though with a lack of area lighting.
The cold water tape oscillated badly and loudly to the extent that I was reluctant to use it at night. It was stiff to operate; there was no air in the pipe suggesting a valve not water ham.
The kettle would not boil water at any level of fill I tried as it kept cutting off, then restarting indicating the safety cutout was activating.
Thr installed air conditioning unit did not work - seemingly - and a fan was supplied to help move air around the room which helped somewhat....but was noisy at night.
There were some marks and staining on the bedroom wall implying a coffee splash.
The rest of the hotel was very good, and married a 'heavy' 1970s style with modern fittings, lighting and art works. The bar staff were attentive and the items priced reasonably.
The charge for the 'leisure facility' (pool, hot tub, steam and sauna rooms) was a little high but everything was clean, tidy and well maintained.
The surrounding area is semi-rural and I could find a 9k / 5mile run easily mostly on paths, tracks and old-roads converted to cycle ways around the racecourse.
The presence of the MacDonalds, Pub and Asda Express across the road was welcome - though cross the road at peak period in the morning was tricky
