We enjoyed being quiet and so near the beach where we could walk and enjoy the wildlife - birds and sea lions and a very angry seal

Really loved this property, had more of a BNB than expected but did not mind one bit. The location is amazing and a great place to use as a base to explore the Catlins. We would have loved to stay extra nights and will be back again. The bathroom being carpeted was a bit weird.

Cosy Cottage By the Sea

We loved our stay here. It was cosy and felt like we were in a beachside NZ Bach. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The hosts were really lovely and we were thrilled to see sealions on the beach. Superb remote and beautiful location.

Great getaway

A very comfortable place to stay. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. They were very attentive to our needs but respected our privacy. Good local information supplied. A night in Surat Bay

We wanted to find a quiet retreat on our trip across the Catlins and chose Surat Bay. We booked only a few nights earlier and of the two cottages, we booked the one with the larger bed. Checkin was easy, the room was warm and the bed comfy. Breakfast was included and there was a lovely array of eggs, cereal, toast and spreads. We were lucky enough to walk along the beach and find a sea lion sleeping on the sand.

The cabin was very big and comfortable. The furnishings were a bit outdated but extremely functional and comfortable. It was great having a king sized bed, a large indoor table and a nice outside space. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and even loaned us their binoculars to see the sea lions better. The location is great within walking distance of many huge sea lions.

Convenient Location

Newhaven is easily missed from the main road but Kepplestone is at a convenient, quiet location for visiting many of the local walks and attractions. Breakfast items including fresh local eggs were a surprise inclusion. Thank you for a pleasant stay!

Pretty spacious cabin, minutes walk from beach

Pretty little cabin, immaculately clean with lovely fresh eggs, fruit, cereal, bread butter and marmalade left for breakfast. Jack and Ester are lovely hosts, we would have loved to spend longer here.

Location is wonderful, right by the sea, and the host is very friendly. The check-out time of 10 AM is a little on the early side, and the room is clean and neat but not especially luxurious.

This is a guest cabin to the main house that is old, tired and really could use some upgrades. Close to the waterfront and beach. The hosts are friendly and helpful.
