This northern coast town is known for having the longest beach in Malta, traditional festivities and a beautiful baroque church.

Mellieħa encompasses the northern part of mainland Malta and contains a bay of the same name. Mellieħa is known for its lush green landscape and meandering coastline, which make for some of the most picturesque beaches on the island. The town comes alive with traditional festivities and celebrations dating back to the 16th century. Discover ruins and archaeological relics that reveal Mellieħa’s intriguing history. Sample local cuisine made from fresh produce grown on the fertile farmland nearby.

Mellieħa’s Church of Our Lady of Victory is a magnificent baroque church and its location on the crest of a hill gives it the best views in town. This church is also the center of two weeks of festivities in the beginning of September. Join in on the cultural celebrations and see folk music, art exhibitions, fireworks and religious processions.

Mellieħa Bay is the longest beach in Malta and is just a 15-minute walk downhill from the center of town. Relax under an umbrella or on one of the sun loungers available for rent or enjoy fun on the sand with the whole family. A range of watersports equipment can be rented for an adventure-filled day in the bay.

Kids and the young at heart will love the popular Popeye’s Village, the fun park in Anchor Bay. The ramshackle little houses in Popeye’s Village were built as a film set but now house a range of water rides, mini golf and theater shows.

Take a short trip to the Blue Lagoon on neighboring Comino island. Check out St. Agatha’s Tower, a 17th-century fort known to locals as the Red Tower for its color. Take a trip to Paradise Bay, a protected and scenic bay on the island’s northwest coast.

Mellieħa is located just south of Mellieħa Bay. The town is easily reachable from most parts of the island by car or local bus. Enjoy Mellieħa’s Mediterranean climate and explore the town, its lush surroundings and delicious local cuisine.

"Great stay, service was very slow but we got the impression that was just Malta. Great suite. Mokka bar food was terrible for a 5star hotel, should scrap the menu and start again. Would absolutely return, just not eat in mokka bar. Pool area would benefit being hosed down on the evening."

4/5 - Good

Mellieha itself wasn't my favorite location to stay at on Malta, but it was a convenient base point to explore the north end of the island, Gozo, and Comino.

2/5 - Disappointing

Verified traveler

Tiny beaches that are packed with people. Trash all over the place, and absolutely no wildlife or fish to see because everything is so over crowded and over populated. Very disappointed.

I think next time we would stay at or very near to golden sands beach; that area seems slightly less isolated. However, if staying for the convenience of location for getting to Gozo, I would consider just staying on Gozo for the time in that area.

Nice place. Wonderful parish church. Children's flash mob on Sunday in the square outside the church. Location of Mellieha is quite a distance by bus ftom most of the Malta sights.
