"The location is ideal. The accommodations were as described, however, I would not review the toilet (outhouse) as super clean, as we had read on previous reviews. It was fine, but not exceptional. Just to reinforce, we were very glad we had a space heater for nights in the 40s and 50s. There is minimal wattage in the dome and so we had to keep the fan on low and did not dare raise the temp above 65°. It took the edge off. This is a great “primitive” experience. Lutsen Little Bear Lodge - Secluded Lutsen Mountain Cabin With Superior View

"We loved this place. It was a truly beautiful setting. We were in the woods and it was peaceful. The upper balcony gave a spectacular view over the trees to Lake Superior. We walked along the road daily and rarely saw anyone else. We did meet a neighbor that stopped us along the road to alert us to bear activity in the area. However, we never encountered anything. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and we also used the charcoal grill. Bathrooms were clean. We had one small hiccup. When I booked the place, it stated there were three bedrooms. When I see that, I am expecting 3 separate bedrooms, each having a door for privacy. There was one bedroom on the main floor and one bedroom upstairs with a second bed in a small alcove leading to the upper bedroom which had a makeshift door. This meant that you need to walk past that bed to get to the actual bedroom. The upper bedroom contained the second bathroom which was an area for the bath and toilet with a door and a sink which was open to the bedroom. This really made it non-useable for anyone sleeping in the alcove. Yes, we were there with family and we made it work, but our kids are adults and were expecting their own private rooms. The living room has a couch with a pullout bed which was how it can sleep 8 people. Overall, we really liked the place. However, it is better suited for two couples, maybe with younger kids who wouldn't mind sleeping on the sofa bed or up in the alcove."

"The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. It worked out well for us as we did a day trip to the Gunflint Trail and a day of hiking, biking and we did the guided kayak trip included with the room. We had a lower-level room (506). It had a river view with a lot of trees in front so an upper-level room would have a better view. The room also had a kitchenette, but really just a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and sink. There were no dish towels or dish soap and only 2 small plates, 1 large glass, 1 small glass. Coffee cups were disposable as was the "silverware". Overall, a good stay and it met our needs for 3 nights."

"This seems like a newer hotel. It is not luxury, but it is clean, quiet, the rooms are spacious, and the beds were very comfortable (ESPECIALLY the pillows which weren't overstuffed monstrosities like many hotels have). There was tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate 24/7. The lobby isn't big, so if you were stuck in your room due to weather, you probably wouldn't go there, but I found the room large enough with lots of "tuck your luggage away" spaces, so it wouldn't feel too cramped if you were confined there. The staff was friendly and helpful, the parking ample, and the location is very close to Hwy 61 (less than a mile up the hill). While we didn't use these "extras" there was a nice little arbor with hammocks, a grill, outside fire pit one could use for a campfire. To top it all off, the price is astoundingly low for the North Shore, especially in season. There is no view of the lake, but the woods are lovely, and for the price, it's a steal. I would definitely stay here again."

Comfortable 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Cabin Between Lutsen Mountains and Lake Superior

"This was our third year in a row staying in this wonderful cabin. It never disappoints which is why we keep coming back. The space is very well maintained and exceptionally clean. If there ever was an issue, I know Jo would be very responsive and take care of it promptly. A wonderful host and a beautiful cabin. It’s a win-win!"

Solbakken Resort On Superior

10/10 Excellent

"This is one of my favorite places to stay on the north shore. Pet friendly, great service, clean room, helpful staff. The motel rooms have a little kitchenette with dishes and a two burner cook stove. Very quaint. There is a dry sauna in the main lodge. You can walk down to look at Lake Superior. Hopefully the new owners don’t change the motel rooms they are affordable and comfortable."
