We agree with the past reviews about this place - it is well appointed with all the needed amenities and then some. Rose really has outdone herself in making sure every possible need is met and the house is full stocked with supplies galore. And while it is an older house, it is very well maintained and very clean and that is a huge plus. The location is definitely quiet and while you are close to everything, you feel much further away. Wi-Fi and communications were superb and while we didn't use the basement much, can see why so many raved about it. The outside covered deck is great and I think if we'd had less hot/humid days we'd have been out there more. The river access seems nice , but was way too buggy for us to properly enjoy, and the swimming area seemed a bit dirty. Overall, I'd definitely recommend staying in Rose's place - it is large, clean, full of amenities & convenient to everything. With a few tweaks it would be even better:
- Checking covered porch lights before new guests stay. The outside space lights were almost all out. They are battery powered and batteries are left but you have to stand on a ladder to change them and doing that for 8-10 lamps is a lot to ask of new guests.
- The master bedroom is small and bc of larger furniture it really is a tight space. We also sleep at home in a queen and the bed was clearly a double not a queen. Not a big deal, and we don't care much as we only use a bedroom for sleeping, but should be noted. Rose may be better served moving a queen into one of the upstairs bedrooms.
- This has been a particularly hard summer - lots of rain and hot and sticky and so mosquitos have been rampant in general - but because there are so many plants in the front where you enter, the house, it might be good to do extra spraying for mosquitoes. We were attacked each time we entered the house.
- Making sure guests clean up the charcoal grills. My husband had to spend about 30 minutes cleaning off the particularly nasty grill top before we could use the grill on our 2nd night. He said that clearly the past occupants had cooked something like BBQ chicken and never did a post cook clean - nor did they empty their old charcoal. This is not Rose's fault, but it might be good to have someone checking this out between stays to avoid the new occupants having to clean up after others.
- In general, just having someone do the above checks, in addition to having cleaners between stays would help a ton.
