Hotel under renovation
The hotel has been recently rebranded and is undergoing extensive renovations. The bits they've finished, like the rooms and the dining room, are new and shiny. The room itself was comfortable. It's close to the town, which has good izakaya and other options if you're not on a meal plan. There is also a Lawson close-by.
On weekdays especially the hotel is an active construction site inside and out. It probably isn't what the workers want, to have to share a construction site with guests. It also felt a bit odd as a guest e.g. the workers congregate/socialise/smoke in a space inside the hotel entrance.
I realise they are trying hard to improve the hotel, and the hotel staff were courteous and helpful at all times. The state of construction is reflected in the price, which is cheaper than nearby options. I read about the construction in advance from Japanese language reviews on other sites, so it wasn't a complete surprise.
five star service. incredible value in restaurant. staff the best ever encountered in thirty countries around the world. owner needs to invest in updating interior finishes and in more maintenance staff. deep cleaning needed in all rooms especially top-down dusting from high spots. owner needs to invest in new mechanical systems (air conditioning, in-ceiling heating units). owner needs to invest in updating built-in bathroom plastic vanities.
The staff were attentive and friendly. The Japanese onsen bath was relaxing. And I loved watching the farmer planting rice in the field from my window.
