"Very beautiful historic property with great views & location. On negative side -large airy village units only have warmish water not hot - village units outdoor showers had waist high weeds - supper menus are 5 course set menus that are repeated & are expensive for quality - restaurant staff lacking management & training - receptionists could do hostessing/oversight at meal times & spot checks on housekeeping/condition of units and gardens to support and train staff but do not - lack of comfy...

"We have never stayed anywhere quite like it. Absolute luxury, complemented by the most attentive, courteous and professional staff we have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel truly special and cared for in the most extraordinary way. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The food was simply exceptional, with world-class cuisine worthy of a top chef, whether it was breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner. Every meal was an...

"Was left stranded outside the gate with no access no instructions. Gate would not open even though wr drove up to it. Phone lines dead. Had no option but to drive away feeling very sad and extremely dissapointed. Drove off into the dark desert looking for a last minute booking which ended up being 1.5 hours drive away. Management said no refund once they finally contacted us in a new telephone number that neither us or hotels.com had been provided with. Still waiting for some sort of apology...

Zuurberg Mountain Village

Addo

10/10 Excellent

Great hotel tucked away high in the Zuurberg Pass, with awesome views of the valley and Addo Elephant NP. The hotel was built last century, and has the charm of an African Safari Lodge. The staff have been working there for years, and are great for whatever you need. Nice gardens to walk around. It's a little remote, but an excellent and wonderful get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Loved this unusual accommodation with all its repurposed touches. Ingenious! Loved the fact that the huts are in the middle of the bush, yet we never fe!t unsafe. The unit even has a microwave. Suggest putting your overnight needs in a backpack and leaving any heavy suitcases secure in your car in the lot. Rod offers a game drive through Addo that is worth doing. For mature travelers like us, who no longer do so well driving in the dark, you might want to make sure you have an Ramen or...

Truly, a five star experience that went above and beyond expectations because of Ranger John! He is an expert level two ranger; has deep knowledge of the nature and history of the land is completely unparalleled! There are many times where he was able to see animals that no one else could see because of his 40 years of experience in the bush. On one of the game drives, he smelled a carcass, and we went to explore the carcass and subsequently which led us to who hidden lions that were finished...

Happy Lands Self Catering B&B

10/10 Excellent

Anybody else who has travelled with kids though South Africa knows that booking family-sized accommodations that are safe, clean and affordable can be a challenge. Our stay at Happy Lands B&B was a welcome sanctuary on our route. Mike and Nita were wonderful hosts, and went out of their way to make this our best stay of our 3 week trip. Both of my kids said they would like to return here when they get a chance to return to the country. This was our family's first experience at a true B&B,...

Exceptional property, design, and experience with top hospitality. The common areas are picture-perfect overlooking small waterholes frequently visited by playful warthogs, curious antelope, and brightly colored birds while you eat breakfast and lunch. The villa interior surprised us in every corner from little aesthetic details, unexpected offerings in the cupboard, local bedtime stories at turndown, or staff leaving wine and glasses by the bathtub our first night. The private pools are...
