Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts showing art and interior views
Examine some of the thousands of pieces of beautiful Islamic art at one of the Middle East’s most highly regarded contemporary art displays.

Whether you need your first introduction to Islamic art or are well versed in the subject, the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts is a perfect destination for anyone who wants to see some stunning works of art. Take time to appreciate the volume of art housed here, collected from over 60 countries and hundreds of artists.

In 1980, the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts was opened by King Hussein and Queen Noor Al Hussein and supported by the Royal Society of Fine Arts. Visit nowadays and you will see how its permanent collection has expanded to include thousands of pieces of art. These works celebrate the Jordanian artistic heritage as well as artistic culture in Asia and Africa.

Begin your visit to the gallery in Building 1. This building is on the north side of a small park and is where you will find the temporary exhibitions. Here you will see new pieces of art that are being displayed to the public for the first time. Check the exhibition schedule ahead of time to see exactly what themes and artists that are on display during your time in Amman.

Building 2 is the home of the permanent collection. Explore the photography exhibit to see artistic impressions of life and culture in the Middle East. Stop and sketch the sculptures skillfully made out of wood and metal. Walk through the displays of colorful ceramics and detailed textiles to gain a new perspective on home décor.

Also in Building 2 is a café, located on the top floor. After you have made your way through the gallery, order a snack or drink and sit at a table here to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. If you have the time, go to one of the lectures or activities regularly held at the gallery.

The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts is located near the center of town, which means it is easy to walk here from local accommodations or take a taxi to the entrance. Visit any day except for Friday, when it is closed. Opening hours are seasonal, but the museum is open all year, except on public holidays.
