We have used VRBO many times and have never been disappointed. We have always given top ratings. This property was a DISASTER and the property manager non-responsive. The manager told us he was out of the country. We had a 4 week stay - it was so bad we left after just one week. Regarding check in, the initial codes we were given for the apartment were wrong and a promised key for the apartment never materialized. The most egregious part of check in was that we had to consent to an additional damage deposit that was not part of the VRBO rental agreement. Unless we agreed to that fee, we would not get the check in information, so we were backed into a corner. It appears that the property manager advertises through VRBO but then uses company policy thereafter (bait and switch). The absolute worst part of the stay was the condition of the apartment - it was not clean and was in terrible disrepair. Hard to believe that the apartment was not cleaned prior to our arrival. The toilets and showers were filthy, the dishes were dirty and the floors were dirty. The apartment was also in terrible disrepair - the kitchen lights did not work, the lights in the master bathroom did not work, some lights that did work had no fixture, the shower head in the master bathroom had no attachment but hung on a screw, the glass shower wall in the second bathroom was not attached to the wall and the grab bar was not attached, hanging by one screw. The window blinds in the master bedroom were broken and falling off the wall, while the sheers that are pictured in the VRBO photo in the living room were not there, although the drapery rod they used to be on was sitting on the patio/porch. The living room furniture pictured on the VRBO website was not there and instead very old, stained furniture was in the apartment. We put a sheet on the couch to sit down since it was filthy. Several of the pieces of furniture were also broken, in particular 3 of the chairs, one of which was hanging off its frame. One wall picture was held together by tape. Some electrical outlets were not covered and in one case, were hanging off the wall. Perhaps the worst was the master bed mattress. It had to be 20+ years old and covered in menstrual blood. It was disgusting. The remote controls had no batteries and there were no basic amenities provided (like starter toilet paper, trash bags, dish detergent, etc). Some VRBO properties provide coffee. None provided - but there were no mugs anyhow!
