Marvel at the bird’s-eye views of the town and mountain ranges on the Jasper Sky Tram. Explore the Easy Trails in the summer months, a network of trails that traverse the Athabasca River Valley. Go skiing at the Marmot Basin in winter.
Hike through the craggy gorges of the Maligne Canyon or to the summit of Mount Edith Cavell. Travel along the Icefields Parkway, between Jasper and Banff, for up-close views of over 100 majestic glaciers. Be sure to join a bus ride to the top of Athabasca Glacier, at the Glacier Discover Centre. Step onto the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-bottom walkway suspended 918 feet (280 meters) above cliffs and waterfalls.
The Canadian Rockies present a natural habitat for 69 species of mammals. Keep watch for frequent sightings of black bears, coyotes, elk and moose. See over 250 bird types, including eagles, grouse and owls. Anglers will enjoy fishing for pike and rainbow trout, among others, at Maligne Lake.
Intercity buses connect Calgary and Edmonton with Jasper and other areas of the national park. Get around via public buses, organized tours, rented car and bike.
The national park is open year-round, although adverse weather conditions may force the closure of some areas in the winter months. There’s an admission fee, with discounts available for families, students and seniors. Book accommodation and camping pitches in advance from July to September.
