I visit Hiroshima often and choose a different hotel each time. This time, I chose RIHGA Royal. I read the reviews prior to booking but I needed to see for myself! The location of this hotel cannot be beat. It is close to Peace Memorial Park, Atomic Bomb Dome, the Castle, Museum of Art, shopping, and transportation. There is parking at the hotel. Some reviews mentioned that 2200Y is outrageous, but that is the going rate for 24 hour parking. Despite the positives listed above, RIHGA Royal would not be my first choice for a future stay. While we had a nice view of the Castle from our room on the 15th floor, the room needed to be remodeled 10 years ago. It did not feel like a "royal" experience. The king size bed was firm but lumpy. The pillows were awful; I had trouble falling asleep and woke up with a stiff neck. Other hotels offer a pillow menu. It would elevate the "royal" feeling if they did. The air conditioning filter appears to have never been changed. The shower head was oddly positioned. The room was spacious but the tv was small. The carpet in the room is very worn. The WIFI is terrible. Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. We ate breakfast at Luore both mornings of our stay. There is an omelette station with a choice of 4 toppings and a buffet with Japanese and Western choices, but don't bother. We were offered a free drink at the 2nd floor bar but did not use. The bar and breakfast on the top floor seem to be for executive rooms only. Overall Disappointing!

Nice looking hotel, next to the shopping malls and sightseeing places. Staff are very helpful and polite. The building seems old, and our room is old dated, stains on carpet, but location was perfect. everything is nearby. Highly recommend it.

The RIHGA Royal Hotel is located in a very convenient part of Hiroshima. It's close to many sight-seeing spots, shopping, a convenience store, and some public transportation lines. I can't comment on parking, because we didn't use a car. The staff was all very professional and polite as you would expect in Japan. For the rooms, on the plus side, the rooms were clean and spacious. The water pressure was great, making bathing and showering enjoyable. The beds although firm, were not too hard. On the downside of the rooms, they felt a bit old and worn. Our room's carpet pile was flattened out, and we had a hole in our wall where at some point in time, the bed-side table probably was shoved into the wall. I would have given the experience a 4 overall, but I've dropped it to a 3 because of my dining experience. We had the breakfast buffet that is promoted with the hotel at Luore. In my omelette, there was a piece of plastic that scratched my throat. I thought it was a fishbone at first, but after I spit it out, it turns out it was a piece of plastic - probably from a condiment pack, or perhaps some other part of some packaging in the kitchen. I would have complained about it, but my Japanese isn't good enough to do anything about it.

We had a corner room with a beautiful view of the castle and gardens. The room was very comfortable and quiet, and the location is perfect for walking.
