I visit Hiroshima often and choose a different hotel each time. This time, I chose RIHGA Royal. I read the reviews prior to booking but I needed to see for myself! The location of this hotel cannot be beat. It is close to Peace Memorial Park, Atomic Bomb Dome, the Castle, Museum of Art, shopping, and transportation. There is parking at the hotel. Some reviews mentioned that 2200Y is outrageous, but that is the going rate for 24 hour parking. Despite the positives listed above, RIHGA Royal would not be my first choice for a future stay. While we had a nice view of the Castle from our room on the 15th floor, the room needed to be remodeled 10 years ago. It did not feel like a "royal" experience. The king size bed was firm but lumpy. The pillows were awful; I had trouble falling asleep and woke up with a stiff neck. Other hotels offer a pillow menu. It would elevate the "royal" feeling if they did. The air conditioning filter appears to have never been changed. The shower head was oddly positioned. The room was spacious but the tv was small. The carpet in the room is very worn. The WIFI is terrible. Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. We ate breakfast at Luore both mornings of our stay. There is an omelette station with a choice of 4 toppings and a buffet with Japanese and Western choices, but don't bother. We were offered a free drink at the 2nd floor bar but did not use. The bar and breakfast on the top floor seem to be for executive rooms only. Overall Disappointing!
