Das durch den Herzog von Oberbayern und Pfalzgraf bei Rhein Rudolf I 1292 gebaute Schloss ist heute im Besitz von Luitpold Prinz von Bayern. Der wiederum ist der Urenkel des letzten Bayrischen Königs Ludwig III und bewohnt das Schloss. Das Schloss ist nicht nur Schauplatz der alljährig stattfindenden "Kaltenberger Ritterspiele" sonder auch wegen des hervorragenden Weißbieres, das in der schlosseigene "König Ludwig Schloss Brauerei" hergestellt wird, über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannt. Built by the Duke of Bavaria and Count Palatine of Rhine Rudolph I 1292, the castle is now owned by Prinz Luitpold of Bavaria. He is the great-grandson of the last Bavarian king Ludwig III and inhabited the castle. The castle is not only the scene of the each year held "Kaltenberger Ritterspiele". It is also known because of the excellent white beer that is manufactured in the castle's own "King Ludwig's Castle Brewery".

Good service and comfortable rooms. Only drawback is that parking is located quite a walk away. Also surprised that the room came with a balcony facing a park. Unfortunately we didn’t get to enjoy it as it was freezing outside and the wind was howling, but I can imagine it being a pleasant touch ...
