First point is that staff is wonderful on all counts.
We were delighted when we first arrived to be able to check in early. Rooms are nicely updated but very small. Wall air conditioner was loud and room had strong odor of urine. My husband who is an engineer thought he would just clean the filter on the air conditioning unit. Upon doing so he found that the unit was filthy dirty with several bounce dryer sheets shoved into the filter causing the fan to overwork. Once the dryer sheets were removed the smell became even more apparent. I realized when I booked this property that it was a pet friendly hotel that was older, but this was to much. We honestly were afraid of getting sick from the smell. The staff on site was completely understanding and they were able to switch us to a different room. No smell and quiet air conditioner. like I said earlier, the staff was amazing and helpful. However, it's just a little concerning that you're going to advertise yourself as a small luxury hotel. You clearly have spent the time and the money to update the rooms in this older property but don't bother to clean or maintain your A/C units. The staff did state some of the rooms smell because it's an older property. I didn't really feel that that is an acceptable answer. I've been a nurse for over 30 years and I know the smell of urine. Within five hours of them switching our room someone else was in that room again. I could have paid less for a larger room somewhere else with a pool.
