"It's seen better days. Quality of the meals was disappointing. Room was spacious and clean but the property in general is tired and needs upgrading. It's a bit on the outskirts of the main part of Yamashiro Onsen but there's a bus stop across the street if you want to get into town. We took it to get to Yamanaka Onsen and to Kakusenkei Gorge."

"Standard Japanese hotel (somewhat small room, onsen available, etc.), but the breakfast was great and they have a map of recommended places for dinner. There are a couple of parking spots at the hotel, a few more spots a block down the street, etc. (there's a map of parking spots on the side of the hotel). "

"I booked this hotel mainly for its airport shuttle. Even though there’s only one to the airport in the morning, they went above and beyond to help and accommodate me. The room was massive and provided absolutely lovely views. I do have tattoos so they had to be covered when entering the bath. The building is old and smells of moisture, which I think comes with running an onsen. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much. "

"A wonderful stay. The morning service at the temple was a profound experience. The introduction to zazen was great, though Japanese speakers will get most out of this - ditto the lecture before morning service. The meals were excellent, and everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. All together, this short stay was a true highlight of my month in Japan. If you’re staying over a Tuesday, you should be aware that (all?) the restaurants in Eiheiji village seem to close on that day. I’m sure the concierge at the hotel will be able to advise on where to get lunch. "
