Our stay took a very unexpected turn. It started with the property not having air conditioning, despite it being advertised. This was an essential amenity for us as we were traveling with our newborn twins. After contacting both VRBO and the host, we were able to come to an agreement: we would purchase a portable A/C unit during our stay, and the host would buy it from us at the end of our trip. We appreciated this solution and thought the issue had been resolved.
Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I accidentally forgot to add our dog to the booking, which was my mistake. However, the property was listed as pet-friendly. During our stay, our dog had an accident in her own dog bed due to anxiety. This was something only my husband and I knew about.
At the end of our stay, the host insisted on doing a walkthrough before we left and specifically mentioned that the dog had “peed on the bed.” When we asked how he knew this, he replied that he “had his sources.” This comment made us extremely uncomfortable, as it suggested he had knowledge of conversations or events inside the home that he should not have had. Because of this, we declined the walkthrough.
Following that, the host refused to honor our agreement to purchase the portable A/C unit from us, despite previously promising to do so. As a result, we took the unit with us.
Overall, while the stay began with a reasonable resolution to the missing air conditioning, it ended with serious concerns about our privacy
