「If you know me, you know I love to explore places that *might* have ghosts, so when the chance to stay at a hotel built in the late 1800's presents itself, I take it. Every time, without question. The Decker may not be haunted, but it is like stepping into the past. The plush red carpet, old wooden details, and Tiffany style lamps accenting the staircase all transport you back to another time. If you ever find yourself in Maquoketa, IA, check out The Decker; it won't disappoint.」

「The hotel/casino allows smoking through out the building, so even though the overall cleanliness was good, the smoke was embedded throughout the hotel & casino. They put us in a room right across from the laundry room. The staff was talking very loud, laughing and making lots of noise at 6:00 in the morning right outside our room. Very low rating for that On a positive note, they did have a free breakfast buffet that was very good.」

「Loved everything, from friendly staff and doggie gift bags to the wonderful art and artifacts from the mill. Every trip to the ice machine became a detour to explore and enjoy a bit of history!」

「The staff were very friendly, the hotel bartender was delightful to talk to and had excellent drink recommendations. It’s a lovely old building to stay in. We had a suite and were the only room on our floor. That felt kinda special, our 13 year old really enjoyed the experience.」

「Go to the 4th floor and look out the river side windows in the large room. Then exit and go to the overlook of the Mississippi River where the suspension bridge use to go.」

「This was a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. The area was safe and kept up well. The hotel was within walking distance of restaurants, ice cream and coffee. Breakfast in the am was delicious and plentiful. Overall stay was pleasant and we would definitely return.」
