The hotel was what I expected for its rating. Not much for amenities, bring a washcloth & hand towel. Our room was above the bar and the music was not loud in our room. Hotel Barracuda has a great location close to the plaza with water access. We were unsure about the free parking, but the Mega parking lot across the street did work for us. The island of Cozumel does charge a security fee of $35 us paid upon your arrival to the hotel now (2026).

Location and Scuba Diving. Hotel Barracuda is located a few minutes walk to Punta Langosta . Plenty of restaurants and shops to see. Across the street from Mega (think Costco) and a few blocks from Chedraui (also like Costco). Dive shop on property-Scuba Juan - is an excellent dive shop. Dive guides and boat captains very good. Miguel in the shop can set you up with diving and any equipment needed. Over Juan is on site supervising activities. West facing hotel allows for beautiful sunsets. Swimming pool on premises. Direct access to the ocean. Hotel has its boat dock. One downside is the music blaring from the bar downstairs from 8 am to 10 pm, everyday except Sunday. Yes, we clocked when the music started.

I've been staying at the Hotel Barracuda almost every year since 1991. I've seen lots of changes over the years yet the staff are just as consistent and kind as ever. Love the convenience of Mega ( grocery store) across the street, daily housekeeping, common areas are kept clean and neat, pool bar/ restaurant has reduced prices for hotel guests, dive shop on premise, walking distance to town. 7-11 has awesome coffee. You can get a massage and/ or adjustment at the chiropractors clinic downstairs. I always enjoy my stay there . 24 hour security. I always feel safe there.

If you're looking for cheap beach front with walking distance to the city centre, and don't care too much about noise, cleanliness and very basic accommodation, this is the place. Nice bar which is busy during the afternoons when cruiseships are around. Rooms have aircon and a fridge.
