About this property

Hygge on the Bay | Soundfront, Heated Pool & Pier

  • Hygge on the Bay is a 7-bedroom soundfront home in Corolla for up to 16, with a private pool (April–October, heating available for a fee), a year-round hot tub, and a private pier on the lagoon off Currituck Sound. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, an elevator serves all three floors, and one dog is welcome. The Herring Street beach access is about a 13–18 minute walk (0.6 mi). In summer, Historic Corolla Park puts on free July 4th fireworks over the Sound.

    Sleeping and bathrooms
    - Seven bedrooms, each with an attached private bathroom
    - Six king beds and four twin bunks; sleeps 16
    - Elevator to all three floors — guests with grandparents in the group say it made the stay easy, and it helps with luggage

    Living and kitchen
    - Open living areas across three stories with balconies facing Currituck Sound
    - Kitchen with two dishwashers, rice cooker, Keurig with pods, and serving ware for a full house
    - Welcome basket of snacks and a guidebook of local recommendations
    - Wi-Fi and smart TVs throughout; indoor games and puzzles
    - Game room with foosball table and arcade game

    Outside
    - Private pool, open April through October; pool heating can be added for a daily fee (see Other things to note)
    - Hot tub available year-round and turned on before you arrive
    - Private pier on the lagoon for fishing, crabbing, or sunset drinks
    - Outdoor grill and outdoor dining
    - Fenced yard

    What recent guests mention most
    - The sunset views over the Sound from the balconies and nearly every window
    - A quiet cul-de-sac with only one other house close by
    - Being on the soundside: calmer than the beach road, still close to shops and restaurants in Corolla and Duck
    - Well stocked for big groups: dishes, pots, cups, garbage bags, soaps, and strong air conditioning in summer
    - Several multi-generation families have come back for a second year, including at Christmas

    Seasons in Corolla

    Summer
    - The private pool is open April through October, and pool heating can be added for a fee.
    - On summer Wednesdays and Thursdays the Currituck Beach Lighthouse stays open for climbing until 8 p.m.
    - Historic Corolla Park hosts Currituck County`s free July 4th celebration, with live music, food vendors and fireworks over the Sound at dusk.
    - The Under the Oaks Arts Festival brings artists and live music to the Whalehead grounds in June.
    - Sea turtles nest on Outer Banks beaches from May through September, so beach-facing outdoor lights go off at night.

    Fall and winter
    - The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is open for climbing daily through November 30, then closed until late March; the grounds stay open.
    - From the last Saturday in September until early May, no county parking permit is needed to drive the 4WD beach north of Corolla (4WD vehicle required).
    - The Christmas Craft Village brings local artists and food vendors to the Whalehead grounds on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
    - Corolla Christmas Village lights up Historic Corolla Village on Friday and Saturday evenings from late November through late December, with Santa visits, artisan markets and live music.
    - Whalehead offers evening Candlelight Christmas Tours of the decorated house on select dates from late November through December (ticketed; they sell out).

Hygge on the Bay sits on a lagoon off Currituck Sound in a newer soundside neighborhood of Corolla. Historic Corolla Park, with the restored 1920s Whalehead house, soundside kayak and canoe rentals, crabbing and a public boat ramp, and the red-brick Currituck Beach Lighthouse are a short drive away. The Corolla wild horses roam the 4WD beach north of town and can be seen on guided tours departing from Corolla or by 4WD vehicle. Duck Town Park`s soundside boardwalk, shops and restaurants are to the south. Groceries: Food Lion in Monteray Plaza and Harris Teeter at the Currituck Club entrance. Timbuck II shopping village is on Ocean Trail.

A car is recommended. Park in the garage and driveway only (up to 6 vehicles; no street parking). A 4WD vehicle is needed to drive the beach north of Corolla where the wild horses roam; guided tours from Corolla are the alternative. Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Norfolk, Virginia, is the nearest major commercial airport.

The communication was excellent from start to finish . Small issues arose but were taken care of right away . The house could have been cleaner. Both dishwashers were full with dirty dishes and the dead bugs on the windowsills and floor perimeters should have been cleaned up
