perfect location

we had 8 adults and house worked really well for us. the location was ideal. great views and very clean, and if you have any issues Laura will take care of it, as she did for us. GREAT property manager.

A great week with family

Due to the secluded located of this property, we didnt leave the house as much as if we had stayed in KDH or OBX. The house had everyone we needed and more. Laura (property manager) got us in early and was instantly responsive to any concerns or needs that we had.

Great Beach House

Playing Hooky is an ideal place for families to enjoy Carova Beach. Everything was super clean. Kids loved the pool and hot tub. Internet connection is excellent so you can stream and even work from here.

Had a great family vacation!

We have rented many places and the appeal of this place comes from the wild horses that came on to the property several days of the trip. Our evenings on the upper deck and our short drives to the beach we’re our favorite parts of this stay.

Love love love OBX!

Playing hooky was perfect for our family of 9! We saw horses every day, short truck ride to beach (walked some days). Comfy beds, great views, loved the crows nest! Laura was super awesome!! DEFINITELY recommend booking thru her!!!

Loved Playing Hookey!

The house was wonderful. Lots of space inside, well appointed both inside and out. Great outside spaces, lots of decks and nice pool. Highly recommended.

4x4 Heaven!

What a blast when the only way to your home is in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Reaching your destination, (2.7 miles on the sand) is a huge adventure as you cruise parallel to the beautiful ocean with statuesque horses calmly grazing about alongside their family! Truly a gift!

Enjoyable vacation home!

Six of us stayed a week here and the house was as listed. The beds were memory foam which is a huge plus! The Weber grill was also another plus as that’s all I have used for years!! Only 2 anti gravity chairs at pool the rest are pretty dated and the pool filter doesn’t work very well. I have a pool and it’s about the same size I’m sure it could be the sand as there’s lots of sand in the pool. I had to purchase beach chairs as the 5 there are wood chairs. So if you want a comfy beach chair bring one!! Overall great stay and we would stay again!!

Vacation 2022

Had a great experience until the mean nor’easter showed up . But until then …. The house was lovely and was as pictured online . The kitchen had great utensils , dishes , cookware , etc . We had to come home and order the knife set for our home. The horses were in the back yard and always close to our house . Pool was great ! Hot Tub was great ! Laura and James are excellent hosts .

Amazing Location

We loved our stay at playing hooky! The location was perfect for our family vacation. The home itself was well stocked and comfortable and the views from the decks and crow's nest were breathtaking. We saw horses every day, sometimes right in the yard! It's just a short drive to the ocean for a day on the beach and we also enjoyed spending time by the pool. Groceries/Restaurants etc. are a bit of a drive - but not inconvenient by any means. Highly recommend!

Great experience

We stayed at this location at the end of July. Our first time in the outer banks and not a single complaint. Laura & her husband were extremely friendly and available for a quick response if needed. The horses really seem to take a liking to the backyard at this location , what a beautiful site in the morning. Definitely would recommend this rental.

Peaceful and lovely beach home

This is a wonderful home in a serene beachside location -- we saw a large group of wild horses our very first morning right in the yard. Amazing experience!!

Fantastic house!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at Playing Hookey. The house is beautiful and the peaceful Carova neighborhood was very relaxing. We saw wild horses, osprey and a fox many of the days. The beach is a short walk (or shorter drive) away. Laura and Dave responded quickly if we needed anything. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment, the sunporch was perfect for doing puzzles, the pool and hot tub were wonderful. We hope to return next year..

Epic vacation

Epic vacation at a wonderful home. House was perfect and location was amazing. Days spent waking up to horses in the yard, quick swim in the pool, drive to beach, back to pool, into hot tub then dinner, drinks and amazing sunsets. Oh, and more horse sightings along the way as well as many dolphins. Had a minor issue getting locked out of the house and Laura was there in less than 10 min to fix the problem. One of the best vacations yet.

BEST WEEK EVER!

Playing Hooky was the highlight of our summer! The house was beautiful and clean. We saw wild horses around the house everyday! I would highly recommend this home. Laura was wonderful and responded quickly to any questions we had. We love playing hooky!

Great property in a great location

Our family had a blast at “Playing Hooky.” The property was very clean and we had everything we needed to enjoy a week at the beach, with all of the amenities of home. The location is great but does receive a lot of tours passing by, which can be annoying.
