  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Clean and great neighborhood!

We stayed here for an OSU football game and visiting our daughter at the school. It was a great location for accessing High St and Campus. We enjoy walking and we did use ride services a couple of times at night. It's a little less than a mile to High St and about a mile to mile and half to campus, depending where you are going. The place is great! 4 bedrooms and very clean. The host is super nice and easy to communicate with. Two parking spaces are available in back plus there seemed to be on street parking in front as well. The 3 upstairs bedrooms are spacious and share a full bath. One of them does not have a bar in the closet to hang your stuff but I think they are still finishing some details in certain spaces. The 4th bedroom is in the basement and very spacious as well. We didn't need the washer and dryer but it's there for your use in the basement. The second bathroom is on the main level between the kitchen and dining room. It's tiny but it is a full bath. Great kitchen too especially if you plan to tailgate there. It has everything you need. The ice maker does not work but we just bought a bag of ice. The water is filtered at the sink so it was fine. The sorority and fraternity houses are nearby so you are in an area that is safe with lots of students but it's not noisy. Great place and would stay here again:)

I don’t think the owners had been inside this house in a very long time. Bedding was stained, dried contact lenses on tables, mold and very dirty shower curtain, sink smelled like garbage. The owner did refund us for the 2 nights that we canceled and moved to a hotel. Hopefully now they have a better cleaning team as the place has a lot of potential
