In the middle of the Hutong (taxi can’t go there, a little walking required, don’t trust google maps, check names on shops while you’re walking, google said 15min walk - took me 4 incl searching to get there), BEAUTIFUL house, amazing staff, comfortable room, loved it!!!

This is a lovely hotel with loads of character. The room we had was spacious with a separate seating area. The breakfast was OK, nothing special but it was fine. They say it starts at 7:30, but we went down earlier one day as we wanted an early start and others were already eating. It’s a shame that the spa is permanently closed. It’s not easy to find initially!

This is a small hotel inside of a walking only area filled with a variety of tea houses, small restaurants, small shops and various theaters. Amazingly, the hotel is quiet. The decor is traditional Chinese with a collection of antique furniture and the famous local embroidery works. The courtyard is tastefully designed and decorated to create a feeling of tranquility. The staff was very friendly and nice. The only drawback was that there’s no elevator and taxis couldn’t park in front of the entrance, so luggage had to be hand carried by you, or you could ask for a porter.

Excellent location with all necesary shops, rea houses, and restaurants around and access to great sites for visitors. Hotel is well designed and maintained, with helpful staff providing great information. Note if you take a taxi to the hotel, the driver can not send you directly to the hotel, but a easy walk towards front gate. Great stay, and we will surely be back for our next trip.

The Buddha Zen Hotel in Chengdu is a rare find. It’s a wonderful yet inexpensive hotel in a lovely and lively part of the city, near the Wenshu Monastery. The rooms are a good size — mine even had a balcony — with good air conditioning and the ability to open windows. It is really quiet at night, and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was good, with both Chinese and Western food choices. In addition, the hotel is pretty and has a lot of charm. Another plus is that the staff is super nice and helpful. My 25-year-old daughter and I stayed here five nights, and we really loved this hotel.

Finding Zen in Chengdu

This is one of the most satisfying and interesting places I've stayed in a city. Close to Wenshu Temple and a fun market and pedestrian street lined with tea "gardens", the hotel itself has beautiful, peaceful architecture and the staff are wonderful and very helpful. And it was an amazing value for the money and where we stayed. Very walkable area and close to great local hotpot places and bubble tea.
