This home away from home was lovely and just what our family needed for a long weekend getaway. It was close to town/restaurants, but still had a great view and so much to entertain guests from age 5 to 73! We will definitely come back to visit!
Great place to stay! Top of the mountain with amazing views! Few winding roads to get to the top! 15 minutes from Sugar Mountain Ski resort! Property was amazing! Plenty of space for 10 people. House is stocked with everything you need! Would definitely stay again!
The location is beautiful, house was very nice and comfortable. There seemed to be several lights burned out on the back porch, but other than that it was perfect. Definitely recommended.
Beautiful house in a great location. Linens were fresh and luxurious. The house was very clean when we arrived, and the host was super responsive and friendly throughout our stay. We had a wonderful visit at this beautiful mountain home, and we will certainly stay again when we are back in the area. 5 stars all around; highly recommend!
We had an exceptional stay at this property! The bedrooms were comfortable and well-appointed, providing a restful retreat. The living room was spacious and inviting, perfect for relaxing evenings. The game room added an extra layer of entertainment, and the coffee station was a delightful touch for a morning boost.
The highlight, though, was undoubtedly the breathtaking mountains view. Waking up to such scenery was a treat for the senses. The owners were incredibly helpful whenever we needed assistance, making our stay even more enjoyable.
One tip for future guests: a 4-wheel drive is crucial, especially in winter, to navigate the surroundings seamlessly. Overall, a five-star experience that exceeded our expectations!
We will definitely stay at this house again.
This property is an excellent value. Since you basically have three separate spaces its like getting three homes in one. The beds are extremely comfortable and the master upstairshas an adjustable base that makes it even better.
The kitchen has everything you would need and the coffee bar is a perfect touch. The house sits on one of the highest points so the views are amazing. The grassy area below the main house hosted turkeys deer and rabbits. They were fun to watch.
The guest house has great privacy and offers respit feom the rest of the group when needed. The game room has a huge TV for sports games or movine night.
You will not be disappointed.

We had such a wonderful time at The Elk Lodge during our 8 day stay. It was the 'perfect formula' for us, our adult children and young grandchildren, (ages 4-9).Located at the top of a mountain, the description given was very accurate. I just can't say enough about the hosts! They deserve an A in hospitality, design, decor, and a very well kept home, grounds, and responded immediately to any concerns, which were minimal and quickly resolved. Even though the home was located in a neighborhood, it was well secluded with plenty of space and privacy. We felt very safe, and enjoyed walks around the neighborhood. One of our favorite perks was the large, mowed field out back. Our grandchildren had plenty of open space to run and play, a rare find on top of a mountain. We watched wild turkey, deer, bunnies, hummingbirds and even a beaver in our backyard!Layered, mountain views were gorgeous, house was well stocked and very clean. We loved the game table, huge fire pit and hot tub. WIFi reception was excellent, as was cell service. The location was great, we easily traveled to Banner Elk, Black Mountain and Boone, roads were open as well as venues and businesses. . And the guest house, we didn't need it but it was included and a mini addition of the main house, an added extra! Rent it, we would love to rent it again!
We got about 9 inches of snow while staying at this house. It was magical! We got together with old friends from all over to go skiing at Beech Mountain (about 20 min drive). Everyone had enough space and the kitchen and seating areas were big enough to handle all the bodies. We had a small issue upon arrival in which the host sent someone out immediately. You will definitely need 4 wheel drive to access the property and could get dangerous traveling in snow. The neighborhood roads tended to get plowed by afternoon, but you are at the top of a mountain so best to take precautions. Kitchen was well stocked, beds and pillows were nice. Game room was fun as multiple games could be played at once. Nice hill for sledding. We had our skis delivered using a local company and they were able to access it easily. Would recommend to anyone and would book again!
Our stay at Elk Lodge was amazing. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the views were breathtaking! We loved spending our evenings with friends and family in the game room! The owners were very kind and responsive.
Great for a big group. Highlights included the fire pit, hot tub, game room. Host was easy to reach and responsive and friendly. Beautiful views and privacy. We appreciated having a separate "guest house" and two master bedrooms, plenty of parking, and lots of different comfy rooms to hang out in. Wonderful place to relax and retreat.
My husband and I and our families arranged a get together at this cabin to celebrate our marriage (We got married at the courthouse with just our parents a few months earlier) Our families had not spent much time together due to living far away from each other, so this was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and enjoy time together. Everyone loved it, and appreciated that they had room to spread out and have their own space when we were not all hanging out together in the kitchen/living room area or game room. The kids loved frolicking in the yard, and they even flew kites outside one day when the wind was right for it. Overall, it was a wonderful time and the perfect place for us! Would highly recommend!!!
Some people find their peace and relaxation on the beach. For me, a great fire and a beautiful view are the ticket. This incredible home hit it out of the park. The hosts go above and beyond to provide an experience that I will recommend to everyone I know. 10/10. Incredible stay.
We stayed with family over spring break. The place lived up to the pictures and description. Some takeaways:
1. The cabin (read: “really nice mountain house”) and adjacent game room/guest house were wonderful. Couldn’t have picked a better setup for our gathering.
2. Bill was a gracious host. Responsive through and through. All hosts would do well to emulate Bill.
3. Really close to downtown Banner Elk, which for its size has an amazing restaurant scene.
When (not if) we return to Banner Elk, we will stay at Bill’s place.
We were supposed to come up to Banner Elk the day hurricane Helene hit, so didn’t actually get there. The rating is for the communication. The host called several times the day before and the day of with updates, ultimately telling us we wouldn’t be able to come up since the town was actually unable to get to due to road closures. He saved us trying to get there and potentially being in life threatening danger by trying. Hoping to go up again after rebuilding.
This property is truly a 5 star experience. You have all the privacy you want as you are the last home on top of the mountain overlooking mountain after mountain. The amenities inside the main house are superior to any place we have stayed before. Every room is beautiful! We stayed Thanksgiving week so I cooked a lot in the kitchen designed for a chef. We loved the coffee room to relax and start the day and watch the deer wander through. We made great use of the jacuzzi and the fire pit. The guest house is awesome and has 2 comfortable bedrooms/kitchen/living room. The game room is very cool and some family members would disappear all day using the pool table etc. If you want to stay in a private luxurious Lodge among the mountains this is the place!!!
We had a great stay at Bill & Brea's Elk Lodge!
-Excellent communication from hosts
-Awesome coffee bar & accessories
-Lovely views and plenty of space for our two large families to spread out
-Great bathroom amenities
-Serene, private location - the property grounds are beautiful. ----Amazing fire pit (it's propane which is convenient, but no s'mores toasting!)
-Huge game room was a hit with all the teens for gaming on the big screen tv, hanging out, and playing pool.
-Super comfy sofas and beds!
The only downsides of our visit were:
-Dining table only seats 6 (4 more at the bar); it was difficult to have our party of 12 sit down to a meal together all at once.
-Plenty of dishes and cutlery but a shortage of serving dishes, *large* mixing bowls, cookie sheets, and baking dishes...we finally found a wine opener in a drawer in the guest house.
-The A/C freezes the basement level and the second level was hard to keep cool (windows and fans are available along with several blankets - so we made due)
-The basement level has a strong odor (previous pets or moisture?)
-Several of the light fixtures and fans were difficult to operate; the main level bathroom and kitchen were very dark.
Overall we had a very nice stay, and upon further updates from the incredible hosts - we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
