From the picturesque village of Eglingham, a 15-minute drive will take you to the bustling market town of Alnwick, home of the historic Alnwick Castle and the world-famous horticultural treat that is the Alnwick Garden. Alnwick also offers a wide range of pubs, restaurants and independent shops, including the largest second-hand bookshop in England. Nearby is the charming village of Wooler, which affords access to the foothills of the Cheviot Hills. Less than half an hour from the cottage is the glorious Northumberland coastline, with highlights including Bamburgh Castle, the RNLI Grace Darling Museum, Beadnell Bay, the harbour at Seahouses, charming villages including Craster and Low Newton, and boat trips to the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne.
On entering this delightful and cosy cottage, built for the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne in 1706 and retaining several original features, you will find yourself in the pretty and welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Tastefully furnished, with plenty of comfy seating, Smart TV, DVD and a traditional wood burner, the light and airy lounge is an ideal space to relax in after a fantastic day exploring this beautiful area. You will also find a charming dining area, and the stylishly designed kitchen is fully equipped with an electric hob and 2 small ovens, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, slim-line dishwasher and a washing machine. There is a side corridor extension with a utility area and access out to the side courtyard. This is ideal for bringing in wet items and drying off wet dogs, it has underfloor heating and a doorway through to the sitting room. The narrow stairway leads directly into the beautiful and spacious master bedroom, with a king size luxury bed, seating, and plenty of storage space. There’s also a bathroom complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.
Stepping outside, you will find the garden is deceptively large and has lots of interesting areas and places to stroll around, with lovely, mature shrubs, fruit trees and roses, including the beautifully romantic, deep cupped, pink 'Alnwick Rose'. You can sit outside and relax on the patio, which is immediately accessible from the kitchen and furnished with a table and chairs. Parking is available in the lane directly outside the cottage.
