"Cannot say enough good things about this monastery. The food was top notch. So healthy and delicious. Our best meals in Japan (vegan food that will amaze you- and we are not even vegan)! The staff is so kind and welcoming. Do not miss the chanting ceremony in the morning. Loved the room with its traditional Japanese experience and garden view. Perfect location across the street from the temple complex. Don’t miss walking around it at night. Breathtakingly beautiful."

"the place is an island on it's own and looks like a James Bond villain base from the outside. Inside it's got so many baths and just cool areas to explore. The room itself is comfortable and there's even a little convenience store near the front desk so you can get room snacks easily. I picked up some of the pickled plum udon noodles to cook at home and they were delicious! Meals are a little crowded as they're buffet style but the food itself is amazing and so many different things to try. I recommend coming here at least once and staying two nights if you can."

"A very different experience for a foreigner, and one that I cherished as a student of Buddhism. If you aren’t adventurous, I don’t recommend it, and if you go, please be curious, open, and full of respect. The non-sleeping rooms will be very cold in winter, the food served is the food served, without changes available, there are rules about which slippers to wear where and what can be photographed, etc. If you’re interested in deep travel (versus hedonism), you will be gifted and changed. Otherwise, please don’t go. "
