Virginias Villas ￥30,394

A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

"We enjoyed our stay. We were very close to DC, the airport, and all the museums. It was twelve of us. The home really felt like home. "Paid 50 pre-tour and limited to a 30 minute speedy marathon tour. They could inform us on that tour that outdoor sound system doesn't work but not inform us that indoor sound system did not. Quickly had to run & rent equipment to manage this omission. The TV's all needed updating which is powered by WIFI that also did not work for us. Our group worked 2 hrs to try and troubleshoot this. The remotes do not match the tv's they are located near and a few were found with no batteries or backing....

"Great experience during Christmas time. The hotel was decorated beautifully. Highly suggest making reservations in advance. The room was amazing, loved the tv in the bathroom. The mattress was not comfortable at all, my husband almost resorted to the floor but ended up turning horizontal across the bottom of the bed and it was slightly better. We will definitely return but maybe with a mattress topper! "
