Location of the hotel was nice, had places that are walkable to go down to eat. Hotel in general was okay, I felt it has had happier times there, the building itself looked a bit unloved and old and could do with a lick of paint at least. When we’re there the swimming pools were closed, one was in maintenance and the other someone clever smashed glass in the pool so they had to sort that out. It was a real shame as that why we booked there as it had two pools. That said the stay was comfortable, the room was old but okay and we slept very well. I hope they will maintain the hotel as it has potential but definitely needs some investment to it.

Whilst the public areas were lovely our room was a little tired. The sink in the bathroom was cracked and the pipes on the balcony next door were very very rusty.

It’s a lovely old hotel with some real charm. The staff were very good, the room lovely and breakfast very good. One gripe, the bar isn’t anywhere near big enough for the potential customers. Running out of lemonade and getting gin in a half pint glass because they didn’t have any gin glasses isn’t really on but the young girls working it were under the cosh. The other, after seasoning my breakfast with ‘pepper’ only to find it was salt I was told by the waiter, quite confidently that the multi-holed cellar was for salt and the single holed, pepper. Well it got me googling! We’ll be back for sure, it’s a lovely hotel and great value at the price, breakfast a bargain. The indoor pool is very good sadly the outdoor was closed. Staff all very friendly.

The staff is not responsive at all. Before we arrived for 2 days I was desperately trying to contact the hotel about confirming the pet-friendly room. They never responded to me: neither by message on Expedia, nor by email, not by phone (I called them but they didn't help) As a result of course they made me pay additionally for changing the room to a pet-friendly one when we arrived. We paid £165 additionally for 3 days: for parking, dog and changing the room. It reminds me of the low-coster airlines where you pay not much initially but you have to pay additionally for every feature. They also always have just 1 person at the reception desk. And this is for such a large hotel. I know that queues are a part of British culture but it's quite annoying that you always have to wait in the long queue at the reception just because the second desk is always empty. It's definitely not a 4*. Quite tired, not very comfortable, if your windows are the same side as the main entrance, be prepared you will never sleep at night because of very loud jingle of the flags over the entrance. No slippers, no bathrobes as well which is quite uncomfortable given they have a pool in the hotel.

In honesty there was nothing outstandingly good or bad, but in general the hotel décor and furnishing is rather tired and in bad need of a revamp. The room was large, had a good view of the bay, but generally poor. Internal doors didn't catch or lock, including the bathroom, shower leaked onto floor through screen, but water pressure very good and lots of very hot water. The basics for a good hotel are there, but no attention to detail, and management failure for not checking these things. I blame poor management, not the staff, who were very helpful. To give one small example: only one receptionist on duty, even though there were two reception stations, so long queues built up to check in/out or ask for anything. This lead to some guests being rude to the receptionist for no fault of her own. I saw her visibly upset. There should be no need for this. Despite the shortcomings my stay was pleasant enough.

Staff are friendly and helpful enough, plenty of space over the whole hotel so it doesn't feel crowded even at breakfast or dinner. Bed was very comfortable even though i have a prolapsed disc. Basic Double room was pretty good but not perfect. Room could do with a mini fridge also. I didn't like the extra charges that are incurred that weren't made clear until arrival(parking fees,e.t.c.), Why not just factor them into the cost of the stay? No one likes surprise costs. Overall Happy with my stay :)

The location was fantastic right next to the sea and very quiet. The room was big, clean but the furniture was dated & tired. We booked a sea view room with a balcony and the view was amazing. The staff were friendly & helpful. The exterior of the poperty needs alot of attention. The pool was closed & looked like it had been for a while. Breakfast was the usual buffet nice & hot. The breakfast view was fantastic. We didn't use the spa.

The room was good as it was more of suite 2 bedrooms and bathroom, Quiet ,couple of issues one night could not get into Room as Cards would not Work,had to have help from Hotel Reception to get into the room, Also Outdoor pool was out of Service ,indoor pool full of Children

Absolutely superb ! Like stepping on board the titanic! Fantastic decor. Staff! efficient polite very clean and tidy. Beautiful building inside. Outside building needs some renovation but ok . Huge spacious rooms with everything you need maybe a fridge be useful particularly when hot weather. But all things considered very good. Price very good for July no issues with that . Staff friendly and helpful. Don’t believe all reviews! Some people are too quick to pull a business down. For this hotel comments were about thread bear and tiered! Maybe a bit , but I love that used patina and for a building of its age it’s just character and a fabulous example of a standard from a bygone age . Thank goodness some people keep these hotels alive and kicking. 🙏

This property is so removed from its description on Expedia. The outdoor pool is closed and covered for inspection and refurbishment. Does not look like it will be open this summer season. Room balconies have been condembed so cannot access. Patio doors are wired to open 2" so no access to fresh air in rooms. rooms are tired and in need of a refurbishment. My advice: Stay somwhere else!! Fortunately we stopped just one night.

Lovely vintage hotel full of character and if you book the sea view rooms they’ve got the best views out onto the bay that you’ll get in Torquay.Nice spacious bar area staff friendly and drinks reasonably priced,would stay again.

Booked the imperial last minute for a nice weekend break When we arrived had to change rooms several times . Even given a room that was already occupied After several conversations told we were upgraded to a suit . It was disgusting and dated and the balcony was locked off for repairs. Red hot no air con . We booked the Imperial because it was advertising an outside pool , when we got there this was also closed We are going to complain and try and get refunded but it’s disgusting I feel for the staff generally nice people

Cleaning staff very friendly. Property need to be maintained and many areas is in need for repairs and improvements. Spa areas is really dated, We tried to get Laundry done at the reception. We asked 5 times and every time we were told they would send up a bag, but nothing happened.We then organised it ourselves.
