  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. The house and the scenery was superb. We cooked , enjoyed music and sat by the fire most every day. Love the relaxation and beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Just gorgeous!

This is fantastic location and property. It’s very well designed, clean and convenient to Big Bend and some restaurants across the street. Coleman was very helpful and checked in with us to make sure everything was good with our stay. It’s a wonderful space, the views and peace and quiet are truly staggering, you will not be disappointed!
