The Convent of the Bernardas, located in the heart of the charming Algarve city of Tavira, was commissioned in 1509 by King Manuel I and later granted to the Sisters of St. Bernard in 1530, nuns of the Cistercian Order.
The rehabilitation of this building earned Eduardo Souto de Moura, the architect, the Pritzker Prize and the European Prize for Architectural Heritage Intervention in 2017.
