Total disaster!
I booked on 6/15 and paid in full for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit at one of our favorite resorts in South Lake Tahoe. On 8/3 The owner messaged on the morning of check in to confirm our party size so she knew we were coming. 8 hours later after we had already driven over 400 miles she messaged that she was cancelling our res and “sorry for the inconvenience”. This is peak vacation time and there wasn’t much availability. I was on the phone with VRBO for hours and ultimately had to book 3 different properties to salvage our vacation. I then had to submit all the paperwork and am still waiting for confirmation that VRBO will provide the financial reimbursement that they claimed they would to cover the first 2-3 nights of alternate plans. I wouldn’t be allowed to cancel the day of check in or actually at all after booking and paying 2 months prior. This owner should be banned from using the VRBO site and VRBO needs to process my claim quickly and send me the money I am owed. This was a very stressful way to begin a vacation - not merely an “inconvenience”. I want to be able to trust booking with VRBO in the future but that will depend on how the rest of this process is handled.
