I left 5 minutes after I got there and went to another hotel. The bathroom was not cleaned and I saw mice. The place is run Down and dirty. The owner was nice however did not give me my money back. At the next hotel , Hotel Riviera,I paid $10 more and it was amazing.
Though advertised as a hotel, Mi Tierra is definitely closer to a hostel. Our room (for which we paid an additional cost to have a private bathroom) had sheets but no blankets or comforters. The toilet would not flush, and each attempt caused a terrible smell to fill the entire room. The shower did not have warm water and was frighteningly dirty. We ended up using the communal bathroom down the hall for all of our needs. The "pool" is an empty structure with tiles falling off the sides, in a state of complete disarray. The towels we were given had holes, and we didn't entirely dare to try the complimentary breakfast. My party was extremely thankful that we only had to stay for one night. Spend a few more bucks per night somewhere else so you can actually enjoy Alajuela.
I just spent one night. The hotel looks old and neglected. It has no air condintioning, but rather a noisy fan. Payments with credit card get a 10% overcharge, although this is not mentioned anywhere in the web page. I definetly would not stay there again.
