After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536 the lead roof was sold off and the Abbey lay neglected for 200 years. The Abbey was "rediscovered" in the 18th century and became a haven for artists and poets. Tip: Visit on a weekday in the spring and you may the place all to yourself!

A night get away

This is our first time in this part of the country. It was only an hour and twenty away from our base in weston super mare .The surrounding area is lovely we ate at the old court hotel and the next day went to ross on wye .we would defiantly stay again . Our host Linda was very welcoming. Also had a great cooked breakfast

Weekend at Symonds Yat.

Wonderful friendly reception by Linda the hostess. She welcomed us with a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the lounge. She told us all the places to eat and all the local attractions and how to get to them. Breakfast was to die for. In all, a most wonderful stay.

Very warm welcome, beautiful old house, spacious rooms with two lounges for guests. Linda was really friendly and very helpful with her knowledge of the local area, Breakfast was excellent.

Lovely stay

We enjoyed our stay at Norton B&B. Lynda was very warm, friendly and accommodating. There were plenty of places to eat without walking too far although you might need a torch as there isn't much street lighting! Despite being close to a major road noise wasn't an issue. The room was dark enough to enable us to sleep. The cooked breakfast was of good quality, but we would have preferred the full English to have had more extras such as black pudding and baked beans etc.

Excellent B&B with hosts who provide a very high quality service. The bed room was beautifully appointed and all the key features needed in a high quality B&B. The breakfasts provided offered plenty of choice and was also of a high standard. A very comfortable guest lounge was available along with a small library of maps and local guide books. Definitely a B&B that I would stay again.

A Charming Home in a Beautiful Location

A very charming stay in a 17/18th Century home in the beautiful Wye Valley. The house is in a small village on well-kept grounds. Restaurants and minor conveniences are within easy walking distance. The hospitality of the landlady Linda was exceptional and so was the Breakfast. I had the smoked haddock on our last day; it was perfect. I highly recommend a stay here if you want to explore the Wye Valley countryside.

Lovely comfortable place

The Norton House B&B was a great place. If you love old architecture you will be in your element. They have managed to bring the house into the 21st century without sacrificing the history of the building. Linda made us feel at home immediately, almost felt like we had known her for a long time. Definitely we will be going back for a longer stay.
