Last Best Place

Summary:

True Montana experience and the place you`ll keep coming back to. The stunning views, Cabin offers Wi-Fi, hot tub, and is dog friendly.

The Space:

This luxury cabin is situated atop a knob of Mount Maurice with stunning views up the main canyon leading to the Beartooth Pass. Last Best Place Cabin offers expansive living spaces designed for both relaxation and fun, including a newly added lower-level living room featuring a game table, foosball table, air hockey table, big-screen TV, and mini fridge—perfect for movie nights, game tournaments, or giving kids (and adults) their own hangout space.

The upper level also includes an open loft area with a full-size futon and kids’ game table, as well as an ensuite bathroom with a lovely soaking tub.

Spacious rooms throughout the cabin, beautiful modern décor, vaulted ceilings, and unique log accents in the living and dining areas highlight the dramatic wall of windows showcasing breathtaking views. The year-round hot tub offers outstanding vistas—perfect for unwinding after a day of adventures.

If you’re looking to soak up quality time with friends or family and truly unplug, this slice of classic Montana heaven delivers. This is the kind of getaway that invites a well-stocked grocery run, cozy nights in, and making memories you won’t rush to leave.

If you plan on popping in and out of town frequently, please note that this home sits probably 20 minutes from downtown Red Lodge due to the gravel road access. Four-wheel drive required all year round just to be on the safe side.

Last Best Place is 11 miles from Red Lodge Mountain Ski Area.

Four-wheel drive and adequate tires are Required 12 months out of the year here! During extreme winter weather arrival time may be delayed as road get cleared and it is entirely possible that you get temporarily snowed in during your stay. Be prepared by shopping on your way to the cabin in winter months.

Guest Access:

Guest(s) have access to the entire home and all listed amenities. This home does have owner closet that is off limits to guests. The areas that are off limits are locked.

The Neighborhood:

Red Lodge, nestled in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains, is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for family fun, a place to touch the wild, or just a chance to let your hair down. Whether you are wearing Birkenstocks or cowboy boots, you will find something to do here. (Although downtown is paved and we even have sidewalks, Jimmy Choos are probably not a great idea!)

In winter the road ends here. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding and sleigh riding are just the short list of activities that you can do when visiting us.

In summer we revel in the Beartooth Pass opening. We are only 68 miles from Yellowstone Park, but plan on a good two hours` drive as the “Pass” is stunning in high mountain vistas, rocky cliffs, and jeweled lakes. The Custer National Forest is a haven for wildlife including elk, moose, mountain goats, big horn sheep, bears (black and grizzly), mountain lions and wolves. Golden marmots are often seen dashing across the trails. Golden and bald eagles often visit our area, as well as sandhill cranes and blue herons.

Getting Around:

Last Best Place has a private driveway. 4-wheel Drive and adequate tires are required year-round. Red Lodge has a taxi service and Uber for transportation in the area. Red Lodge does not have a commercial airport. Guest(s) can fly to area airports and drive to destination. Area airports and approximate distance to Red Lodge: Logan International Airport (BIL) 60 miles, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) 147 miles, Yellowstone Regional Airport (YRA) 64 miles.

Unauthorized animals or evidence of an animal on property can result in a minimum fee of $250 and/or your reservation being cancelled without a refund.

The home is equipped with: bedding, pillows, towels, pots & pans, dishes, toilet paper & paper towels, garbage bags, dish soap, dishwasher soap, detergent for washer and propane or charcoal for the type of grill provided. No food or spices will be provided due to health regulations.

We provide a sample amount of soaps, shampoos, and lotion to get you started.

Red Lodge, Montana is a rural community that does offer internet and cell service throughout most geographic areas but, some locations are completely void of any internet or cell service. In town and within a 3-5 mile radius of downtown you will enjoy solid cell signal but during times when our population increases due to events, celebration (such as the Fourth of July), or emergency situations such as a wildfire you will notice that these online and cellular services slow down and sometimes, they can slow down to the point where you have to wait to place a call. We can’t do anything to help in these situations, so we encourage people to enjoy the freedom of being “unplugged” and to be patient.

Guest will receive emails prior to arrival date with directions and lock box code and pre-stay information.

This was a great place to stay, a great experience with the place. Enjoyed the living area, hot tub, fire place, remoteness, and accommodations all around. Fridge needs interior light.

USCSA Western Region Championship

My team stayed at this property for the 2024 USCSA Alpine Western Region Championship at Red Lodge Mountain. This is a gorgeous property with fantastic views of the mountains. The property is private and the checkout process was incredibly easy. We loved our stay!

Delightful

We had a wonderful time at LBP. There was a snowfall while we were there and the hot tub was amazing with the views. The views really stand out. The cabin has everything we needed, was clean, and very homey. Loved Red Lodge and enjoyed the local dining. We will definitely stay again should the opportunity present itself.

Room with a view

Beautiful views. House even better/roomier from the inside. Group areas to spread out and relax together. Could use some dressers and suitcase stands in bedrooms.

The Last Best Place hosted by AAA is the VBRO vacation rental by which we will judge all others. Everything about this experience, property, and hosts was superb. If we had to highlight one thing we especially appreciated, it was the communication from the hosts. They kept us informed and offered assistance. Just the right amount and form of communication. Thank you!

Better than expected

The home was better in person than even in the pictures. The home was very clean. They thought of extra things, had fresh flowers to welcome us and used local shampoo and soap. I would highly recommend and hope to come back!

Amazing!

This was one of the best properties we've stayed at. Everything was perfect. The beds were so comfortable that we had to look at what brand they were. From the nice fluffy towels to the extra cozy blankets in every room, those little touches didn't go unnoticed. The place had everything we needed. The views were amazing!! We will be back!

Beautiful View and Beautiful Memories

This was perfect for views and coming together as a family. Two of the bedrooms were big and beautiful. The top level shower was on smaller side, but has a soaking tub. The cabin had lots of character and a feeling of comfort and relaxation. It truly was a great cabin and beautiful location. We were there in July and it was hot. There is a mini split only in the top bedroom. It was warm the first night and day in the main level bedroom and common area. There were box fans to use to help cool those areas. It stayed pretty warm and was very loud with fans going, but we managed. It cooled at night to help those on main level bedroom to sleep OK. If you are when it is continuously HOT, I’m not sure the main level would ever cool to comfort without the loud box fans. The cabin is beautiful and was clean. They had fresh flowers on the large dining room table when we arrived . The kitchen had everything you needed to cook! An extra refrigerator (in laundry area) was a great surprise to keep drinks in. I would definitely go back, again. It was everything and more. I would not hesitate to stay here , again unless it is in the winter with the crazy steep hill going up the mountain to the cabin. That is the beauty of this place is that IT IS in the mountains. It is stated 4WD is needed with no exception to winter or long periods of rain due to steep road. We were there with 4WD SUV in July and the 4WD was not needed. We got up no issue at all.
