Overall very nice property, built within the last 10 years or so. Great location for golfers, located on the finishing hole for the golf course, steps away from the club house and practice tees. It is a nice property but definitely not 5 stars -- too many little things that need fixing. A solid 4 stars.
The beach and some other amenities are technically "walkable" but they are a fair distance from the home. Would recommend a golf cart, can't imagine walking back to the house after a long day on the beach.
Electricity and gasoline are very expensive on the Island. As you plan your trip, do the math on the rental car -- fuel is about $7 US per gallon. Most taxi trips are about $20 each way. Driving here can be a challenge and not for timid drivers.
US $'s are taken everywhere -- bring plenty of tipping cash. AMEX was surprising taken everywhere we went as well. Dining out for a family of 4 at mid-scale restaurants average about $200 all-in. We spent about $350 on groceries for a 6 night stay so getting the cook (very, very nice person) is worthwhile and will save you money. Be sure to pay particular attention to the menu planning -- this must be done in advance. If you have preferences on food prep be sure to make them known -- for example: low sodium, vegetarian, food temperature, fried vs. baked. Island culture is to fry foods, thoroughly cook the food with copious amounts of salt. It tastes great but may not be what you want.
If you go on excursions -- definitely do the catamaran. Skip the boogies -- horses back riding was fun!
We worked with Felipe our entire time on the island. He was amazing -- took care of all the problems that we encountered. We saw him every day at least once.
Our only real issue with our stay is air conditioning. There is no way to stay under the 300 kwh in a three night stay, never mind a 6 night stay. House design nor AC units are energy efficient. We were VERY conservative with our use of AC, cooled only 2 rooms and still went way over. Plan to pay $$$ unless you can address this prior to your stay. Of note, we are coming from a region of the world hotter than PC and this still had a huge impact on our stay.
Other little bits of info, plan to drink bottled water -- house water is not filtered. Ask Felipe to bring you ice -- he will get you a 5lb bag. The home accommodates standard US electrical plugs. Beds are firm and comfortable.
Enjoy your stay!
