  • A recently restored battery demonstrates how Fort Shirley protected Prince Rupert Bay, the best anchorage on Dominica. The bay itself has a long history. In 1493 one of Columbus' ships entered the bay, and by 1535 the Spanish made it station along their official treasure ship route. Check out the map to see how the fort sits on a volcanic headland, strategically overlooking the bay. Construction of the fort began in 1765 after France ceded Dominica to the British at the Treaty of Paris. The French won it back in 1778, only to cede it again five years later at the Treaty of Versailles. At it's height the fort housed over 600 men, but in 1854 it was finally abandoned as the British and French made up. Today the fort is a public park open for all to visit. The hotel was very nice, the room was clean, the beds comfortable, but the hotel is not located where you can walk to town or the beach. I had thought it would be near the beach area, but it's on the other side of the road. The staff was kind, food was not very quick but was good.

Staff was ok, but I was offered food, then told I needed to pay for it with an outdated payment method (cash) which I didn't have and couldn't get. I explained my issue with ATMs on the island and reception did not show any compassion and didn't care.

Het hotel was prima. De kamers ruim en het bed prima. Je kon diner en ontbijt bestellen, maar het ligt echt afgelegen. Als je geen auto hebt, kun je zeker ‘s avonds weinig kanten op.

Es war super, dass eine kleine Küche dazu gehörte. Das Frühstück war mit Liebe gemacht und das Personal sehr freundlich. Ohne Auto ist die Lage etwas abgelegen. Aber man kann in 20 min zum Strand laufen.

Nous avons séjourné dans cet hôtel 3 nuits à la suite de l’annulation de notre logement choisi initialement (Hôtels.com nous a replacé au Rejens Hôtel). Nous avons séjourné dans la suite (deux chambres, deux salle de bain et cuisine). Le mobilier est vieillot mais les lits sont confortables. Un peu bruyant par moment la nuit (proche de la route). Les draps, serviettes et rideaux sont tachés, il vaudrait vraiment la peine de les changer. Le ménage était acceptable. Nous n’avons pas eu d’eau chaude dans les douches. Nous avons du nous même ouvrir l’eau dans les salles de bain au niveau de la tuyauterie pour avoir des toilettes fonctionnelles. La cuisine est fonctionnelle et la suite spacieuse. On nous a annoncé une vue océan partielle mais nous n’avons pas vu l’eau ! Nous avons aussi payé pour un petit déjeuner inclus mais l’hôtel a refusé de l’honorer. Le service client était exécrable (même pas un sourire, la majorité du temps il n’y avait personne à l’accueil incluant pour notre check-out. Stationnement facile.

Perfect for my needs

I arrived late due to I went on night dive, lovely people and check in. Good security and room had coffee and tea and good appliances and perfect stay. Breakfast ready at 7 as promised and I was able to leave smoothly for morning scuba dive

Excelent value,spacious rooms/appartments

No close location from the airport (One hour away with taxi), very friendly staff, no phone service working at rooms, kind of aparment almost full equiped. Only stairs no elevator at this 3 floors buiding

Functional accommodation near Ross.

Staff was nice enough. Price was low or this review would not be average. Breakfast was continental but stale and warm milk, had to ask for plates and utencils . Coffee undrinkable. Room and AC worked. TV sometimes. Internet did work - bonus! It was a functional visit. Shower was broken but useable and sink leaked from drain or P trap but no one seemed to care. So for what I paid it server the purpose but not so sure I would go back.

They don't honor reservations

Night before arrival they advised staff forgot to book the reservation even though it was made 7 months in advance through Expedia and Expedia confirmed two nights before! They changed from a social suite to 2 apartments in a sister location. Not what we wanted but at least the staff were more helpful in the sister location. Rejens offered us a local phone that didn't work. Never again! Facilities rating are for sister apartments as Rejens bumped us.

The hotel lists a restaurant, which isn't completed. Food can be ordered and sent to your room, or you can eat where the breakfast buffet is served. The suite was very large and well appointed. Airconditioning in the bedrooms was adequate but the large living room/ dining area /kitchen had none. Leaving the bedroom doors open wasn't a solution. The common area never cooled even when the bedrooms were frosty. Any headway made was negated by the maid tirning off all the A/Cs and fans in the hottest part of the day.
