Pool and spa are not heated, even being indoors. The hotel is beautifully built and well maintained for its age. The free laundry service was nice but the machines are kept clean but not really maintained. This hotel caters to a lot of working people who seem to all smoke. They do not let people smoke in the rooms, going as far as placing ash trays outside every room. However, when everyone is smoking right out side their rooms there is some leakage, especially if your window is open. This isn't directly the hotel's fault but if that bothers you you should be aware.

Unfortunately, our experience at the North Parkes Hotel was disappointing. Before booking, we called the hotel directly and were quoted $150. We then found the room cheaper through Expedia. When we questioned the price difference, we were told that they were “not a charity”, which we found to be quite an unnecessary and dismissive response. We booked specifically because we were travelling from Parkes through to Brisbane and expected to be able to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, on arrival we were told that the restaurant is not open on Sundays or public holidays. This would have been useful information to know before booking, as it was one of the reasons we chose the hotel. We were also disappointed to find that there was no room service on public holidays. When we asked reception if they had a spare USB charger we could use, the response was simply that they “do not provide that service.” Again, it was the dismissive manner in which this was handled that stood out. We also weren't aware that the hotel had a pool, as this wasn't pointed out to us during our stay. Overall, the facilities may be fine, but the customer service and lack of communication around the restaurant and services left a lot to be desired. A little more helpfulness and a more welcoming attitude from reception would have made a big difference.
