We are long term and frequent users of VRBO for numerous beach rentals from Destin to PCB. We rely heavily on both pictures and guest reviews when choosing rentals, and have never been let down in the past. So, based on numerous positive reviews of this unit, finding this situation was a surprise to us.
The exterior of the Emerald Isle building is well maintained and visually pleasing. The pool area is excellent and has an outdoor pool, a huge hot tub, and an indoor / outdoor pool. Access to beach is very close and convenient. Entry into the condo unit gives an initial impression of a simple but tastefully decorated unit with a nicely updated kitchen and a huge balcony with lots of seating. However several significant cleanliness issues became quickly apparent. Both comforters were worn out, had visible stains, and a noticeable unclean smell. A pillow case had a stain that appeared to be blood. Bathroom towel had a large stain. Some air vents had a thick grimy coating, others had what appeared to be black mold. Corners and edges of tub surrounds had black mold. Most of the upholstered furniture was dirty and stained. Items from previous guests were found under furniture in two rooms indicating a less than thorough floor cleaning between guests. There was a sticky grimy coating on both remote controls and the areas surrounding cabinet and drawer pulls. If cleanliness is high on your priority list this is not the rental for you. A deep professional cleaning, updated clean linens, and a few furniture updates would bring this rental appropriately into its price range.
