Don't miss FREE live local hawaiian music outdoors here every Wednesday night and enjoy the local treats at the farmers market and the food stands, featuring a variety of items including vegan and vegetarian fare. On the way there you'll pass the historical star of the sea painted church. Down the coast you may be able to see a plume of steam rising where lava is flowing in to the ocean!
Don't forget the charming town of Hilo in your itinerary. Only 25 minutes from home, discover Hilo's unique history on Bay Front at the Pacific Tsunami Museum. Down the street you will be among friendly people as you wander throughout the stands of Hilo Farmer Market. Sample Hawaiian food, fresh hot tamales and Filipino dessert! Take a 45 minute drive or so and you could be at the lovely Volcano, situated near the rim of the Kilauea crater on your way to viewing the lava activity in Volcano National Park (ongoing 20 plus years!) If you ever feel need to leave the Puna district, there's plenty more: Wimea Town, social center of the famous Parker Ranch, Kailua-Kona and it's shopping centre, gorgeous scenery, arts, crafts and all that is has to offer. Very nice property. Host was very friendly and helpful with local knowledge of food and activities in the area. They also have a binder with a lot of information on things to do. There is a friendly cat that lives on the property and will sit with you if you like. The house was easy to find, just follow the hosts instructions. Be sure to check out the fruit trees in the backyard.
The place is about 20 min away from downtown Hilo. It is in a very tranquil village and yrs a perfect rainforest escape. Mango is so cute. We saw all kinds of plants and animals (birds, chickens and pigs). The house has everything needed, very comfortable. On Sunday we visited the nearby local farmers market which is great! We’d love to book it again. Thank you Matt!
Older home but well kept on the inside. It was a good space for our family. Conveniently near where we needed to be. Host was very responsive.
The deck off of the bedroom was cute but some string lights would make it more accessible at night. We loved the outdoor shower but it could also use some string lights when it gets dark.
There was no AC but with windows opened and fans on, the house cools down a lot.
The property was amazing. The house was very clean and well stocked. The location was perfect. Sadly we had to cut our stay short but the host was very quick to respond and very easy to work with.

Such a wonderful place that was more than accommodating! Beautiful fresh fruit trees on the property too! My wife and I took our 2 younger boys and stayed here for 4 days. It was amazing! The house and the host were very accommodating and they even added some personal touches to your stay! We'll definitely be back soon!
We loved this property! Very clean and well equipped with everything you can think of. Nicely situated to travel around the Island. Beautiful setting with fresh fruit from the trees on site. Comfortable beds. We would definitely book this property again!
Had an “erupting”experience. Spent time in National Park and saw quite a fireworks display right from Volcano House overlook Pāhoa met all of our dining needs and Uncle Robert’s was as advertised. Will stay again.
Matt , we thank you for your hospitality. We had a wonderful stay in your loving furnished and well equipped rainforest cottage. Mango the cat makes our stay additional funny. We would love to come back on our next stay on Big Island.
Everything was perfect. Really clean and beautiful wooden furnishings, all in a comfortable spacious cottage. Well stocked. Hosts communicated promptly. Would absolutely stay here again.
We loved our stay. The cottage is very comfortable, fully stocked, and the property is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the night song of the frogs! We used Waze to find our way there and it worked perfectly. Would definitely stay here again. Mahalo.
We very much enjoyed the comfort of the Rain Forest Cottage during our week of exploring the island. The home had everything we needed for preparing most of our meals at the cottage. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed. Many resources about the area and the island were available as well. We enjoyed walking the property and enjoying the beautiful foliage and trees - wish more of the fruits would have been ready to pick, but we quite enjoyed fresh lemons. We also appreciated the outdoor shower, allowing views of nature and avoiding humidity in the house. Would definitely stay here again!
Great location for what we had planned while on the East side of the Island.
Not too far to stores and to the ocean to watch the waves.
The cottage was well equipped and worked well for us. We loved the outdoor shower!!
The host provided clear instructions and was easy to communicate with.
We had a fantastic stay at the Rainforest Cottage. The property was extremely clean and very private. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and there was a large supply of items for use on day excursions (coolers, snorkeling gear, etc). The location was convenient to explore Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and the Hilo area. Thank you Matt for sharing your slice of paradise with us!
What a wonderful cottage. We really enjoyed our stay.
Love how everything was labeled, made it so much easy to find things. It was in a good location and truly was in the Rainforest.
Best part was the cat, sure did enjoy his/her company and was always meeting us. Make sure you feed and keep the water bowel clean
Will stay here again.
It was beautiful, peaceful. I enjoyed the nature sounds. I loved Mango, the cat. It was comfortable and had everything we needed. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
I absolutely love this home. Its my second stay here. The property is stunning, quiet and peaceful. I brought my 68 year old mom for her first visit to Hawaii. This place was perfect for us to connect, relax and enjoy the incredible beauty of Hawaii together. My mom had such a great experience.
