「Location and ocean view was FANTASTIC. While it's not a 5-star/ $1000 per night hotel, it has everything you would need/ expect from an excellent beach house. We were only a group of 2, but the house easily could accommodate 6 people. Great jumping off point to see sites on this side of the island (Hilo, Volcano, towns that existed a few years ago but then were taken by lava). 「This property fully deserves its near-perfect reviews. Plenty of space for our family of four, utilizing the pull-out futon and air mattress. Our kids loved the koi pond, finding giant frogs and snails around the lawn, and waking up to a rooster crowing. No air conditioning, but ceiling fans and open windows kept the unit cool enough even in June. Idyllic location, relatively short drive to Volcanoes NP or anything else on Hilo side. Very well stocked including full cabinet of beach gear....

「Our family of 6 stayed there for a week. Our main focus on the trip was exploring the nature so the location was perfect. Equal distance to both the national park and Mauna Kea, and being not so far from the airport was very ideal. Howard’s place was so comfortable that we decided to just enjoy the place playing pool and relaxing in the yard. Howard was so easy to communicate with too. Thank you Howard for such a nice place and some background story of the house!」

「We had a fantastic stay at the Rainforest Cottage. The property was extremely clean and very private. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and there was a large supply of items for use on day excursions (coolers, snorkeling gear, etc). 「Lovely spot. Beautiful grounds. Unique Old Hawaiian motif. The owners put their love and pride into their units. I think there are 3 -4 units in the home but all were not occupied, so it was fairly quiet. The frogs block out any noise at night. They were very loud, but we loved their sounds! It could use a deep cleaning, and newer spices, condiments, and pans, but for the price it was a good value.」

「Totally unique off grid experience smack in the middle of the jungle. Think tiny house meets summer camp! Misty, the property host, gave an excellent introduction to the property and amenities. Her knowledge of flora and fauna enhanced our experience. Don’t worry about trading comfort for rural retreat. Our bedroom cabin was super clean, warm, appointed with quality linens and towels, and worked well for the four of us. This is a must do experience you won’t stop thinking about.」

「We stayed for 4 nights on this side of the island to go to the national park and explore around Hilo. This house is very clean and in a nice quiet neighborhood. The fans cool it off in the night fairly quickly, but it can get pretty hot in the day without an AC. Great communication from the owner leading up to the trip.」

「We enjoyed this unique property, especially the deck in the morning and evening. The stray cats were sweet and my daughter really liked having them around. Only issue was with the showers. The outdoor closed in shower was very hot and unable to change the temp; the indoor shower was chilly and the other outdoor shower ‘one with nature’ was just right. Other than that, the property was as described.」

「We loved our stay in the downstairs apartment with our own outside terrace overlooking the garden. It was spacious with a comfortable sofa bed in the living room for extra people. It was great to have our own kitchen and to have a big jar of coffee provided to kickstart each day. It’s not far from the Volcano Park with easy access to Hilo. Thoroughly recommend staying here.」

"Our family of 6 stayed there for a week. Our main focus on the trip was exploring the nature so the location was perfect.
